Adopting a dog will run you about $105.

Try craigslist.org for California and click under "pets" they have tons of free animals listed daily. Another idea is to check out your local humane society or SPCA. Those animals need a loving home and sometimes they have puppies. Plus the animals from the humane society or from a shelter usually have their shots and have been fixed so that's less you have to pay for. Shots and getting an animal fixed can cost a couple hundred. Plus adoption fee's are generally low at shelters/humane society.

Another idea is to look on petfinder.com. If you know the type of puppy you want you can narrow your search and it will pull up available puppies in your area.

Finally, you can always look in the newspaper or even just ask around at work/school. Many times people have free puppies and kittens are just looking for people to give them too.

Goodluck in your puppy search!!

Hmmm, if you want *cheap* cheap, you should try the people who sit out front of the grocery store with a box of puppies. Or maybe the penny saver.

Anyway, the animal shelter isn't too expensive, but it's a little expensive because they want to make sure the animals are going to a good home. If they practically give them away then that opens the door for people to abuse them. The more you spend = the more you appreciate it.

Hope you find a reasonably priced puppy =)

I say you buy it in an adoption center because its giving a dog a second chance but also if u buy one in a pet store they have many chances of coming from a puppy mill and then it ends up costing even more then if u bought it at the adoption center for 100 dollars more so ya hope i helped and i would go with a yorkie cuz they have better a better temperment and huskys are known to have an unpredictable tempermant. good luck also at the shelter they also make sure the puppy is healthy and they warn you if the puppy isnt

if you want a puppy for a cheap price, there are always puppies around that are being given away. The shelter will charge because it needs fund to run. The best bet for you is to either get a pet that is free and then take it to the vet, etc., or go to the pound and expect to pay some money for it.

Just call local animal shelters in your area. Most adoptions are pretty cheap and the animal will usually come spayed/neutered and with their shots. If you look in the phone book you can probably find a ton of animal shelters/spca's where you can go and look for a puppy. Good luck!

Lets see if I remember correctly, in Calif. you have to have a dog neutered or spayed before you can take them out. And also getting a dog from a shelter, you are going to get a dog with how many problems. Not saying they can not be corrected, sense we have 2 dogs from shelters.
A dog from a private owner, that you get as a pup, you can train, and make sure/try to keep it from starting/learning bad habit's.
Especially if someone is going to be with it all the time.
Hope this helps...Just make sure to pick a dog/pup that will fit you home and personality the best. Meaning if do not have a fenced yard, or unable to give it a lot of exercise do not get a Big dog (more than 45 lbs), Small dogs are better suited for apartments or condos.

Both are great ways to get a puppy. Try looking on-line at the shelters website to see what dogs they have available. And try next week to see if new dogs are posted.

You can find dogs of all types through the following websites:

petfinder.com
pets911.com
1-800-save-a-pet.com
nextdaypets.com

These places usually have databases you can search by your city name or zip code.

You can also try "freecycle.org". Lots of folks post pets for free there.

Thank you for wanting to adopt a shelter dog!

Check out craigslist.org, many people often have to give up puppies or older dogs and have a low rehoming fee.
