You can call in and explain the situation and they will usually let you out of it.

Check on your jury summons to see if there is a number you can call or an address to write to explain your hardship. You may have to actually show up (maybe with child with you if necessary) on the first day to explain your situation. From talking to other people who have served, they tend to be generally understanding and accommodating. Good luck!

I don't know if you have the option to defer or not, but here is a GREAT website I found concerning jury duty, caregivers, and Kentucky. It's more help than I can be to you.

You will probably have to go to the first day of selection and you should be able to tell them straight out that you have no vehicle for transportation, a child and no child care. I doubt they would force you to serve. It is possible that you could send a letter explaining this, but they may still want you to come to the selection. Don't skip it, I think that's a crime.

You should have a place on the form you were sent that specifies that you will be unable to attend. On there, they usually have something that states "care for child" or "undue hardship" or something.. If not, then tell them what you told us..only leave out the redneck part..heehee

Usually there are hardship clauses for these types of situations, just explain to the court what your situation is and be honest, the problem should take care of itself.

Check the form carefully...You may have an option to reschedule. If so, see if you can ask for a time when your child is out of school.

You will have to show up the first day but just be honest about the hardship it would cause you. Hopefully they will be sympathetic
