Start out smoking the same as you do right now. The next day take one cigarette away, and every day reduce the amount by one. So if you start at 20 on Monday, by Sunday you will be down to 14. Keep doing this until you are down to none. That's how my mom quit. You have to be disciplined in order to not smoke more than you should. By the time my mom got down to one, she could stretch that one for the entire day.

since you smoke that much everyday, your body got adjusted having these poisons running ur body. That's why people with more serious drug problems can actually die by quiting abruptly. You hav to take decrease your amount of cigarettes maybe every few weeks or whatever you're comfortable with. The reason why you were coughing and stuff (tryign to not smoke) was because your body was so used to having 2-5 cigarettes a day. So each week you should decrease slowly from 2-4cigarettes, then another few weeks, 2-3, then so on.

I can't remember who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is about smoking. "Quitting's easy - I've done it a thousand times".
Quitting permenantly is another story. I am a smoker. I don't want to quit, but wish I wanted to quit. This is what I am doing in the mean time...
I don't have the ultimate desire to quit, but want to be healthier so I've done a few things to help a bit.
1. I excercise more. Some studies say that those who smoke and excercise regularly are healthier than those who don't smoke or excercise at all.
2. I take breaks from smoking. I know smoking is effecting my health when I become really tired for 3 or more days for no reason, my sinuses/allergies are acting up more than usual or I have a lot of trouble sleeping. I then take about three days off from smoking and feel better.
3. I drink a lot of water. This curves appetite as well as cigarrette cravings.
4. Keep busy as much as possible. When the mind is off of cigarrettes, the desire is gone. I don't know about you, but the no smoking adds on television and on billboards everywhere are the worst things for me. They just remind me of the fact that I smoke and trigger the need.
Not sure if this is anywhere near Dr. recommended, but it may help a bit until you are completely ready and determined to quit - if that's where you are at this time

The best way is to quit is cold turkey. Usually a person end up quitting for good when they quit cold turkey rather than the assistance of some product they got themselves use to. When they can't afford to buy the product, they end up smoking again. I did a long time ago and I never went back on it and I definitely don't miss it. It makes you smell horrible.

best way to quit smoking. cold turkey. and love yourself for trying.
so far I have quit 3 times today. take a drag and put it out. it is tough. I have smoked for 35 years. I quit for 6 months once. if you light up, don't think you have failed. try this, I was just practicing for when I do quit.

Okay break every reminder that you have. Get rid of every ash tray. Everyday is a new day, and it is hard, but the first day is the hardest. So the second is easier, and the third even easier. You are gonna have to get mad, and just say i'm gonna do it.
Get some hard candies to suck on, something to keep your mouth happy. But really, the nicotine craving is really hard to over come the first few days, but you can do it. I did!

I used the lozenges. I had smoked for 11 years and now I haven't had one in 2 years and almost four months and don't miss it one bit. Best wishes on your quitting attempt. I think it was about my eighth that succeeded.

Put all your butts into a coffee can with a lid. Put a little water in it, too. Tell yourself you can only smoke while looking into that can. Within a week you will not want to look at that can ever again.

get some thin that can help you keep your mind off it !
like a new hobby or ant thing like that like any hand craft.
you can start using a pen or some thing like that as a cigarette till the first days pass by :)
but try to get away from food ! you may go to that so don't leave a problem and get in to another !!!!!!!
