When you are sick your immune system fights off infection. Well, when someone has allergies their immune system "overreacts" and tries fighting off normal things (pollen, grass, foods, etc.) Some allergies can be genetic, and sometimes you develop them based on your constant exposure to certain types of allergens.
You can try taking allergy medications to minimize the side effects.

Why are some people prone to allergies?

People react to same thing differently.

Take peanuts for example.

It is a common food eaten every day by many people, and yet I know one person who almost died because the person was allergic to it and peanut oil was used in food preparation.

what is the pathology behind it? Why are some people prone to allergies?

Again this same case, Body releases Histamines to fight of allergens, this causes swelling, etching or it causes skin to break out ....

If the swelling is in breathing system then it can block the system and a person can die.

What is the remedy?

Anti-Histamines.

Desensitisation.

Cortisone. In various forms.

This is a vast field and new discoveries are made from time to time.

Go look it up in a library or on line.

I am not a doctor or anything, but love learning about health. What I know about allergies is that basically we are allergic to things because our body is missing something which could normally help us handle the stimulus to which we are allergic (cat dander, pollen, dust, etc.) This can come from genetics, but is usually a result of a prolonged overexposure to one or more stimuli which caused an imbalance in the body, thus a vulnerability to another stimuli develops. I was allergic to cats for a long time, but after cutting my dairy intake, I am no longer allergic to cats. I'm not sure why, but somehow, I threw my body back into balance by cutting dairy. Go figure! Again, I'm not a doctor, so maybe you should talk to a physician with any specific questions. Since I'm macrobiotic, I personally like to help what ails me with dietary solutions. Hope this helps!

Hypersensitivity reaction of the cells in your body to some "allergen."
Remedy: Blocking the histimine that is released, and blocking the hypersensitivity that occurs..... Avoidance is really the best remedy.
People are prone to them, when they have them in the family, because the hypersensitivity reactions, they build up the ones from their parents sometimes. If they have other hypersensitivity reactions, then they are more prone to others... Such as if they excema. Some people are missing part of their cellular cascade... the ones with other problems such as excema.

An allergy is an abnormal reaction to ordinarily harmless substance or substances. These sensitizing substances, called allergens, may be inhaled, swallowed or come into contact with the skin. When an allergen is absorbed into the body it triggers white blood cells to produce IgE antibodies.

a good example is manufactures of candy, make different kinds on different days, in different parts of the same building. Ingredients, such as nuts, cocoa, and milk powders are stored and poured from large hoppers, that can release dust particles from that product into the air, so then. leave "traces" of that ingredient in other products where they might not normally be added or expected. So, let's say, a manufacturing plant that makes peanut crunch, would then list that possibility of residual dust, in their caramels, on their packaging for those customers who are highly allergic. Because there MAY be traces in there. And, no one wants to accidently kill or sicken someone, or be sued as result of lack of disclosure.

your antibodies react to a specific substance sending you into shock or causing an adverse physical reaction. However, many people refer to a sensitivity to something as an allergy, but that isnt life threatening, a true allegy can easily be life threatening

When your body reacts to certain things that you come in contact with or consume, it raises your level of immunoglobin. As I understand it everyone has a threshold that as long as you stay below it you are fine.

Once you go above that level adverse reactions start to occur, itching, watery eyes, etc and this could get as bad as even to induce death.
