I live in Illinois, Chicago burb's. I was cleaning out my grandma's computer room and found Windows 3.1 and some other ancient software. Where can I go to recycle the software for free?

Recycle the software? You mean swipe the disks? Forget that. Email me at sin_cowboy@yahoo.com and I'll trade you 5 blank CD-Rs for the Windows 3.1 (I'm a big fan of retro software, lol). Thats 2500 MB worth of CD, can't beat that. Send me a list of this "ancient software" I may be intrested in buying or trading for it.

wonder,

You can use those software for free in the sense that they are already paid for. There are no software gimmicks that would limit you to do so, nor there are any legal consequences when you do.

Yet, word of caution, best use windows 3.1 software with windows 3.1, (or windows 3.1 workgroup, the latest crappy windows that is most stable beforew windows 95 came out). Depends on the software, most of the software would not work on Windows 2000 and beyond (which means Windows XP included).

Like you said, those software are completely obsolete. There are no practical purposes for them.

As for vicious, if you really want retro software/hardware. I have DOS 5.0 if you are interested. I also know of a guy who has a laptop that only runs on DOS with floppy disks only! Now that's treasure. If you are willing to pay good price for it, the guy might be willing to part with it.

What do you mean recycle software for free? The only thing I see that you can do with win 3.1 media is throw it in the garbage or maybe find a collector.

There you go, you found one...
