It may not be a dirty bottom that is the problem. Your cat may have problems with her anal glands. All dogs & cats have them and usually they empty each time your pet has a bowel movement. Some pets though have to have them emptied on a regular basis by a veterinarian. If left untreated, it can cause a serious infection. It's not as uncommon as you'd think. I work at a vet clinic and on any given day we probably see 4 or 5 pets that need to have this done. It only takes a minute (as long as your cat isn't a holy terror) and she will feel much better. Good luck.
p.s.~Most likely it is not worms. I don't know where that rumor got started but worms are inside a cats intestine, not on it's butt making it itchy. The cat may have worms but I'd bet that's not what is causing the problem.

If you used over the counter worm medicine chances are it didn't help. I had a problem with worms in my cats and I wormed them several times with over the counter stuff and it didn't work. They only got better when I got a pill from the vet that takes care of all the worms.

my cat used to do that... so, i wipe his bum with a moist towellete before he even thinks of sliding his bum on the carpet... but that means i have to stay on watch for him to go into his litter box to poop... but cats are so regular, i know roughly what time of day he's ready to go ... anyway, after a few days of this, my cat actually lies down to get his bum wiped - what a spoiled rotten cat!
Could be his anal sacs (minute pores on either side of the rectum) are blocked... its called "annal sacculitis" - this causes the cat some discomfort. You can "express" the contents of the sacks yourself:
1) use one hand to hold up cat's tail
2) hold a tissue or disposable cloth in the other hand.
3) Place your thumb externall over one anal sack and your finger of the other
4) Press in and apply fir pressure over the sacks (like pinching).
5) This causes the contents to be expressed through the anal sac openings and into the tissue.

That sure is a problem. I have a cat that does that (doesn't show on oriental rugs!) because I think this is way she releases pressure in her anal glands. It can also be a sign of tape worm. Have you treated for that?

Ask a vet; she may have a food allergy which gives her an itchy bot, and there are several kinds of worm, so your medication might have missed a variety.

What wormer. Different dewormers are for different worms.
Was she recently rescued through a rescue or did you get her and get store purchased dewormer?
