I'm 20 years old and I just caught my dad this last weekend. I have summer school and work, but it's hard because it constantly eats at me that I saw this. I have a 15 year old sister at home, and I don't want her to catch my dad too. She is still growing and it might be too much for her. What should I say to my dad and how should I handle this?

The fact that you're 20 and this is the first time you've been aware of the fact that your dad looks at porn tells me that he's been very careful not to allow his kids to see him do it.

I can imagine that it's hard for you to even think of your dad doing that but it doesn't have to change your relationship and you more than likely don't have to worry about your sister finding out. It's hard to realize that our parents are human. Think about what you know about your dad outside of this one issue. If it was surprising that he watched porn, I suspect that means he's been a good and responsible father. If that's the case then I wouldn't mention it to him at all.

Your dad is probably going to be really hurt when he finds out you caught him, most adults want their kids to respect them and now you are in a predicament where you can either approach your dad and let him know you caught him and cause him to feel bad because you know he has this porn problem, or you can try to forget it and go on as if nothing happened. The odds are that your dad has been doing this a long time, in secret. I'm sure he feels its wrong or he wouldn't be hiding out to watch it, tough choice If I were your dad I'd respect you a lot if you approached me and told me what you saw and your concerns, but you know your dad better than I so you gotta go with your heart not mine.

It is very mature of you to be concerned about this situation especially with a younger sister in the home. I am going to assume your mother is not living in the same house? It is a disturbing thought to think that your father would be watching something like that. Is your relationship such that you are able to speak with him calmly? If so, make a time to sit and talk with him. Let him know that you aren't judging him and what he does in private but that you are concerned about your sister. If your mother is around, this is something you should talk to her about as well. Pornography is an addiction and you may strike a nerve when you speak to your father so be prepared for him to deny he is doing anything wrong. You are involved in good things by going to school and working and it is commendable for you to be concerned about your family.

Your father is a grown man. Frankly, his entertainment choices are really none of your business. Yes, I know it's hard to believe, but people don't stop having sexual thoughts just because they have kids and get older.

If you "caught" him because he was not being discrete you might mention that he might what to be a bit more careful because of the possibility that your sister might also walk in. However, if you "caught" him because you were taking his basic right to privacy for granted (as kids often do), I suggest you knock the next time.

I guess it depends on whether he was taking proper precautions. If he was doing it in the privacy of his bedroom while keeping the volume low then he should be left alone. If he was doing it in the living room for all to see while knowing someone was in the home then he was being careless and should be asked to keep it more discreet. The bottom line is that your Dad has a right to do what he wants with his body as long as he keeps it private. You might try writing him a quick note if it makes you feel uncomfortable to talk to him in person. ASK him to please be more careful...or something to that effect. Good luck.

You really need to mind your own business. Men like porn and there is nothing wrong with it. its just a healthy sexual curiosity and interest. Now if you said you caught your dad looking at kiddie porn or something violent or or illegal, that would be a different situation. I'm assuming your dad is over 21 and a heterosexual male, looking at hetero sexual explicit pictures on the net. Now if he is married to your mom and looking at gay porn... ya might wanna tip off your mom, but even then it still has nothing to do with you. Get over it; it's none of your business.

I know what you mean it sucks to catch any parent or loved one for that matter doing something "DIRTY" even if we do it ourselves. But honestly there is nothing you can do becuase he is a grown man and not doing anything illegal. Dont say anything to your dad unless he saw that you saw him because then it would make it seem like he was doing something wrong which he wasnt so just leave it alone and next time knock first!!!

it is a shock when u realize ur parents have sex needs. i agree he should not let the younger sis see him. maybe just say "dad porn is ur own business but can u assure me that sis wont be able to catch u like i did?" if not, maybe u can write it out. Good luck and u sound like a real nice person.
