no, don't lie - we are given doubt for a reason. We are supposed to question, to search and explore. That is what life is all about.

Honesty is also used as a weapon. Honesty can, thereby be used dishonestly. Deception is sometimes a good weapon and biblical characters employed it--take the simple act of hiding, am I here or not? David hid from Saul when Saul wanted to kill him. Even Jesus, as John 8:59 shows "hid himself" (in the middle of a crowd, nonetheless) and said God the Father hid things from people who were unworthy or undeserving.
Consider Joshua 2 and the two men sent to spy on Jericho. Rahab hid the two men and told the king of Jericho's men that she didn't know where they went. That woman is listed in the lineage of Jesus with an honorable mention. (Which is fascinating that a former-prostitute is spoken well of by Jews today but when they get to "the wife of Uriah" that king David had an affair with--how do you refuse a king?--they spit)
Notice too, what the Law says, "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" (Exodus 10:16)--essentially malicious gossip. This is the stuff of 1 Kings 21 when Jezebel hired people to speak ill of neighbor Naboth so the town would have Naboth executed, giving hubby Ahab a chance to take the property he wanted but Naboth wouldn't sell to him.
We should always be truthful to the extent that our life depends upon it, but if truth will be used by evil people against us I won't waste it.

Would denying the evidence God has given be an honest assessment? Would tossing out the evidence of millions of personal testimonies be the honest thing to do?
So if you first redefine the word "honest" and then you hide behind it, will that justify you to the final Judge?
Drink that koolaid if you want to, but not me.
As for me and my house we shall serve the Lord.

If you were living in Europe during WW2 and secretly housing Jews, and a Gestapo came to your door and asked if you were harboring any Jews and you said "Yes," I think God would be mad at you. Jesus tells us at times that keeping the Spirit of the law is better than keeping the letter of the law. People misuse this, but for situations like this where preserving a life prevails, it needs to be exercised.

If honesty is used to harm another person physically or spiritually, I think that would displease God.

Because we are creatures of choice. We have natures inside each of us. It is in our nature to question everything. It is in the questioning we formulate our opinion. That doesn't make us right. That just makes us special and unique. In your mind God is not real but in my mind he is. Yes the universe has a balance. This make the two us different. Does God hate you less than me for believing in Him.Certainly not because we are his creation. Best of luck!

Honesty that wounded another persons soul, I think would displease God. His edicts clearly require us to love one another.
