We recently moved from the country where my 3 dogs roamed freely on our 30 acres of land. Now we live in the city and they MUST stay outdoors due to size. I would do ANYTHING for them, ANYTHING. Please help!

Your dogs are stressed by the total change in environment..I just recently went through the same thing with my dogs...what I found that worked, was giving them extra attention.. My dogs are huge..taller than the dining tables..but, as there is no yard, I have to keep them indoors...
As the extra attention..daily obedience training (brush-up course, if they already know the basics) and /or agility training..to give them new 'jobs' and something to keep them occupied and feeling loved..

there are many on-line helps for both disciplines...Agility training is so good for the mind and body..and it would be good for you, as well!

take them out places, to learn all of the smells from your new neighborhood..this greatly improves their chances of getting back home, if they should ever escape..

Meet new people and dogs with them, by enrolling in classes..You can find the classes, by asking at your local pet supply, or feed stores..

Soon, they will learn that being in the new home is even more fun, than having the freedoms of the countryside...
It sure worked for me and mine...However, it isn't an over-niight remedy, and will require time and dedication..

Your dogs are undergoing a lot of stress and boredom right now.

I have large dogs and a small house and they live indoors with me. I can really think of very few things on this planet that would *require* a dog to live outside all the time. There are people with multiple great danes who have them living inside.

Outside dogs are generally frowned upon in cities for the exact reasons you're discovering. Bored dogs who are outside all the time and aren't socialized bark and dig and are nuisances. When you live in a farm, that's no big deal (to humans--dogs never enjoy being bored and lonely), but in a city it's a major distrubance. Not to mention that fact that in a city there's a lot more people around. People who can steal or harm your dogs if you're not supervising them.

Either bring the dogs inside or rehome them with someone who will. I don't care if they're mastiffs: they belong indoors.

Your dogs are in culture shock. To have been taken from 30 acres to a yard in the city is probably extremely difficult for them. They aren't used to being confined, there are too many strange noises, etc. You didn't say their ages, so I'm not sure that they will ever adjust properly. You may have to make the difficult decision to find them new homes where they once again can romp and roam.

Well. I think the best method would be to get them trained by an experience professional trainer. Or maybe you can train them yourselves by looking through dog training books.

About the yard thing. I am not sure. My dogs used to dig up my backyard, but they stopped. I think your dogs might just get tired of it sometime soon. Or you can squirt or spray them with water when they start digging. Then if they don't dig up the yard, praise them. Hope this helps.

I use a invisible fence to keep them in the then every time the dogs howl or bark in the middle of the night take them in the house.

Your dogs must be big and uneducated!! You have to have somebody trained them, That's including th barking. Other wise, your neighbors, wll be calling the police to have peace!!
If you don't they can take you to court, and the court can make you get rid of them!!

They make anti-barking collars. That might not keep them from going crazy, though. You're talking about reconditioning them, which is not easy.

I would say definitely try to take them to a training class and hopefully they'll tame down so you can keep them.
