First of all, the nearest town is Dothan Alabama, and you are going to be within a few hours of drive from the Gulf of Mexico.

This base is wide open -- lots of space -- and the surrounding community is pretty much easy to get along with -- and the area (this part of Alabama, and the Panhandle of Florida in specific) is very much Military Friendly.

There is a good little gem of a museum on post -- the Helicopter Museum (my kids called it the "hop-a-copta" museum when they were little -- they could not say "Helicopter" -- and they liked to go there and even could crawl around in side and sit in the seats -- it was fun for them.

My sister and her husband settled down there (both Army). It's not too far away from the Gulf Coast and there's many good restaurants there. You do have to deal with the occasional hurricane/flooding. Not a bad area though. And it is growing quickly.
