Not too sure what you mean by "how does homeschooling work?" Usually parents do what ever they may need to do to legally get started and then they teach their children at home. Some get involved in homeschool support groups, some prefer finding an online school or charter school to sign up with. Lots of choices.

My opinion is that most parents who choose homeschooling do a great job because their focus is on their children's development.

I chose homeschooling because I didn't like what I saw going on socially in schools. My dh feels the same way. We now also enjoy that our kids can work at their rate at a time in their lives when the development of basic skills is crucial. They also get to explore their interests and we get more time together as a family.

Home Schooling works in many ways. I think it is a great idea to home teach your child(ren). If I ever have children I will most defiantly home teach my children, or send them to a private school. At this day and age, I would not feel safe having my children in a public school due to all the violence going on today.

The parent or guardian educates the child at home instead of at a public school environment.I think homeschooling is great because of many reasons. One reason being that I read in a homeschooling article that less than 1 hour is spent on "on task" learning in public schools.

Homeschooling is very wonderful especially in this day in age. I am so glad that parents decide to do this for their children if they can. Its has nothing to do with public or private schools. Its a decsion that the parents make for their children. I know some homschooled kids who are very indeed well mannered and talented kids just like any other kid from public or private school. Great option for any parent looking for education needs for their kids.

Every home school works in a different manner -- just as every home and every person is unique.

I can explain only how our home schooling works:

Our children get up in the morning just the same as those that leave to attend group schools. The difference is that they stay at home.

When breakfast is finished they find a quiet place to work and begin working out their math equations. When they were very young they practiced flashcard memorization after working the equations with manipulatives. Now that they are older they do one complete lesson every weekday. When they are finished with the lesson they get out the answer key and find out which if any anwers are wrong. If they have more than 5% errors they do the equations again. Otherwise they move into the next step of home education for the day.

After math is complete each day they get out their notebooks and write full page essays in the topic of their choice. They turn these papers in for review and possible correction if needed.

Reading comes next as they get out their books. They read from a list of literature that is high quality in grammar, vocabulary, and moral content. They also study vocabulary that is associated with each reading book. The vocabulary list that they study comes from the books and SAT exams.

We use the Robinson Curriculum. It is a self-teaching method that enables the student to become capable of thinking things through in a logical fashion.

Math is the basis of science. Knowing and mastering math prepares the student to excel in college level courses in the exact sciences. Writing skills are developed by practice, practice, practice. Good grammar comes from reading books that are written by authors that understand and excel in proper usage of the English language. Reading exercises brain-cells and keeps the mind strong.

Academics are an important part of our home-school We are also involved in many other pursuits. My daughters have time for horses (4H, team events, and Shows), crafts, politics, hobbies and jobs. My sons love to build things with wood and work on motorcycles and cars; they also hunt and fish, and work at jobs. All of us have many friends in our community and across the Country. All 4 of my children study music --- piano, violin and voice; hopefully soon adding flute.

There are times when my children join others in group lessons at the homes of friends. They have studied drama, foreign language, unit-studies, science, report writing, cooking, knitting, art, landscaping.... to name a few things.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Oh, yes, my opinion?!
I LOVE HOME-SCHOOL!!!!
We first began teaching at home due to dissatisfaction with the public system and also due to a lack of funds for private education. Looking back I will confidently say that I would home-school my children all over again even IF every other option was "good" and affordable.

Now -- I know for a fact that I would home-school my children simply because it is the most wonderful and rewarding method of education. They all do very well and have wonderful friends. They have become good students and good employees. I love having them around throughout the day. It is a joy to watch them as they comprehend a new concept and as they grow in knowledge. More than being for "me" I would do it all again because I have seen with my own eyes that home schooling has been the BEST thing in the world for my students. After all it is ALL about them!!!! Home-school gives them the opportunity to attain knowledge, wisdom and understanding. They can do their own thinking and are equipped to be able to learn anything that they want to know.

Home school works! Self-teaching works the best.

Students should be allowed to progress at the rate that their mind can take them without having to wait for 30 other children in a classroom to be ready to go up to another grade-level. AND if they are not ready for material or concepts they should be allowed to s-l-o-w down and take the time to master the material without being rushed to a new book or level without being fully prepared.

Did I already say, I LOVE HOME SCHOOL!!!!!!!
