Remove it off the wall if you can. A relative of mine bought a house and I was helping to paint the house when these huge strips of old wall paper started to come off on the paint roller when it touched the wall paper. It looked awful and had to be painted several times to look somewhat normal.

Yes you can paint over wallpaper. Just start off covering the entire wall with white primer. It may be stronger than regular paint but when you do get ready to put the real color on your wall it will be eaiser to paint on and you may not have to do a second coat. That way you don't have to worry about wasting all your time pealing wallpaper off the wall and you might not get all the wallpaper off anyways. You can get primer from any hardware store like Homedepot.

You could paint over it but it isnt advisable. Rent a good steam stripper that should help. Or buy a wallpaper 'scorer' it makes little perforated holes in the paper,,,then put fabric softener and water in a spray bottle and keep spraying the bottle whilst scraping. It is time consuming but worth it....most of the work involved in painting is in the prepartion. Get the kids involved they love to strip wallpaper!!

yes you can ,but the key , as many have alluded to is to prime over the wallpaper...but i might add that it should be an oil based primer as the oil base will provide a barrier so that the water in the latex tpocoat wont get to the actual wallpaper, and that will keep you from having lifting or bubbling problems. Yes you can, but you run the chance that the paper will absorb the paint and pull away from the wall. There is a special sealer that you need to put on the paper first.

I know it sounds a bit daunting but, buy a wallpaper steamer follow the instructions and take all the old stuff off, if as you say the wall covering is non vinyl and unpainted it will be a breeze.

Try painting a small area and see how it looks. If you are wanting just color and the paint does not look good, get a solid color wall paper and cover over the old.

I painted over the wall paper in my house and had no problems. If there is any seems use a sand paper to file it down.

Yes you can, but remove the border paper first, and use a primer before painting.

it is not recomended.
just get a simple wallpaper scratcher,
steam the paper off....
and paint.
this will save you a lot of time and hassle
and will also help if you ever decide to sell
your home in the future.
