A friend of mine has a cat that had kittens 8 wks ago. She has a roomate that has been treating the kittens like orphans and shutting the mother out. It is my understanding that @ 8 wks. these 4 kittens should be weened. However the roomate refuses to stop giving them a bottle (that they never had to have to begin with). I have fed the kittens hard food and soft food, it is clear the only reason they cry when she is around is for attention. All she does is rotate the bottle all day and all nite long. My friend doesn't wish to hurt her feelings so she alows this to go on. I am more concerned with the quality of life for the kittens. Before I confront her I would like to obtain documented proof that this "feeding" thing has to stop! Can anyone refer me to a website link that provides the information on this subject? After all I could be wrong.

It is very easy to over feed kittens, and this often produces diarrhea.

At 8 weeks old the kittens should be going to their new homes soon, tell this lady she needs to stop or it will be harder on the kittens to re-home them AND take away their bottle.

Is she feeding them cow's milk out of this bottle. Cow's milk is bad for cats - it causes them to get diarrhea. Only mother cat's milk should be fed to kittens, or a specially designed simulated milk for kittens that are abandoned. No cow, goat, or other milk at all. Kittens don't have to be weaned at 8 weeks - mother cats will feed for a few months if left with their kittens. Eventually then they will start to wean them on their own. No cow's milk, though. Check Cat Fancy's website. They have excellent cat care info. there.

Unless your friends roommate wants to keep all the kittens forever she should stop. Kittens should definately be fully weaned by 8 weeks as that is when they normally get adopted out. I got a kitten once that wasn't property weaned and she 'suckled' my t-shirt, blankets, etc. As for a wesite, I don't know one. Oh, plus milk (if that is what she is giving them) isn't good for their digestive system (bad gas, diarrhea), they need hard food. Hope this helps.

at 8 weeks the kittens should be weened. Any kitten book or website should state this. Try Purina website or Iams

It is OK to wean Kittens at this age and if they are taking food from a dish and 'Lapping' milk ( kitten milk bought from a pet store ) etc the bottle feeding should stop.
NOW...!!!!
