I have and use both (I am a graphics software junkie), and here are the differences I see between them, and my suggestions.

Also, personally, I think PSP v8 was their best one ... and still use it the most. It's not quite as intuitive as X though. I never got past using the trial on 9, hated it.

Okay, if you are a novice in image editing software, and anticipate learning and utilizing every resource possible in a program, I would go for PSP X. IMO it has more potential for serious art than Adobe Elements 4. If, however, you are a digital photographer and//or scrapbooker wanting a friendly user interface, and want to delve in midway and do the usual manipulating and editing processes, then Adobe Elements 4 is for you.

Both are about the same price, and both have free trials, so I would recommend d/l them both, play with them both, and see which fits your needs and style best.

PSE4 has a more intuitive and user friendly interface.
PSPX has more potential for those that want to get elbow deep in the imaging processes.
Both are good buys for the money.

There is another alternative I would suggest looking into also ... PhotoImpact 11 .... comperable price and features ... more specific on some tasks (like web graphics) ... it also has a free trial. I would equal it to PSE4 or just below ... but for some people this woujld be a preferable program.

depend on what youre used to, and what youre using it for. personally i use psp, im upto V9.01 at the moment. ive used it since it was free, and given away on magazine covers... so i know my way around it. as far as im concerned, psp7 was the best. 9 has too many bells and whistles, and as for 10, well i wont have XP anywhere near my PC, so i dont know.

what i do know is, PSP is a fraction of the price of adobe, or any other proprietry software, such as photoshop. psp had loads of add ons if you want them, and suppports all major file formats. and i got mine (V9) for ten quid off eBay. i use it for photographic manipulation, and creating graphics for use in page layouts and DTP,and im a serious photographer, ive created flicka books, animations, and panoramic stitiches using 10 or more frames at 8megs each... and i defy anyone to see the joins!
