my cousin's kid is overweight and i think it could help.

kids MUST EAT EVERYTHING, they need everything to grown up...so he can eat everything(maybe not in fast foods, of course)..the best thing is do smaller portions and more fruit and vegetables (no junk food, they not need it)!
better if he just drinks water and not coke,Pepsi and sweet drink...they content much more calories and sugar (also diet coke...) than you can imagine

If this is your cousin's kid, and your cousin hasn't asked for your help, then your cousin will probably be offended when you offer whichever diet you pick.

Instead, I suggest you give the child a Dance Dance Revolution game. This is a very addictive game that's like a fast competitive version of twister. It will give the kid lots of exercise and appear to be a gift instead of a criticism.

Don't mention weight or exercise when you give the gift. Just say you thought it would be fun. The game will take care of the rest.

do small things i just started doing this with my son and he lost 5 lbs over the last 2 weeks ... when we eat out i order him grilled chicken if he wants a burger then he eats a kids meal he was eating adult meals limit pizza to two slices and no Soda or sugary drinks i take him to the park to run around every other day for an hour.... most important i didn't tell him he was on a diet when he asks why he can't eat what he wants i tell him we are all making changes .. and i have been eating what he eats.also ask him what he eats at school that was a problem for my son he would eat donuts for breakfast and drink 2 cartons of choco milk.. good luck it is not easy but very important!!

Well the best thing for him would be to get at least 30 minutes of exercise at least 5 times a week and to cut out junk food. Drink plenty of water to flush out toxins and to help regulate the body's metabolism it also helps to keep hunger down. Also I have read to drink a cup of milk 10 to 15 minutes before eating as it can replenish sugars needed and help give him so as not to feel so hungry. Try not to make a big deal out of foods but don't eat 4 hours before sleeping.

Breakfast eat like a king.

Lunch eat like a working class person

Dinner eat like you just found out you lost your job.

Its not verbatim but I remember it like that from Raising Positive Kids in a Negative World from Zig Ziglar. Remember its more important to raise a childs self esteem and help him learn to choose healthy foods then to try to control and/or criticize.

Remember kids are still growing so in time he may outgrow the weight problem if he sticks to healthy eating and regular exercise, dieting never helps anyone only making wise food choices can make a life long permanent change. Hope this helps.

Hi Danielle!

The best bet here is to prevent the kid from having exposure to sugars and fats, junk-food. Then, promote playfulness. Going to a park instead of watching TV with a bag of chips or playing Nintendo or xbox until the wee hours.

The kid should continue to eat GOOD FOOD when he/she is hungry and not distracted.

The best thing to do is to change the way their child eats without making a big deal about it. It involves buying healthier food and snacks, low calorie drinks, no soda, no candy, etc. It would also help to have the kid enrolled in some type of sport.

Water; soups; veggies, especially veggies; a treat (snack) every other day. Just so they'll have something to look forward to. It controls the crankiness. Fruit; meat without the skin; nothing fried in grease; cut way back on the carbs, but give lite carbs such as crackers; toasted bread; no biscuits; no grits; no rice; no mashed potatoes. AND NO CANDY!

The most important is to find a physical activity he/she likes. Get them to do it 3 or 4 times a week. Even things like skateboarding or rollerblading. Once they see some weight come off that way, it's easier to start eating better. Try to stay off processed foods and refined sugars. That will go a long way to help!

Many well meaning friends and relatives think they can "help" a fat person, but the truth is, it's not that simple, the fat person like any other addict has to do it themselves, and not to be nasty, but it's really no one else's business but the fat person.

If you want to unobtrusively help, take the kid on excursions that involve a lot of walking or exercising that doesn't seem like exercise such as swimming, biking, hiking, and rollerskating. Bring healthy snacks or guide their food choices at restaurants without appearing to do so or you might meet resistance or outright rebellion.

I applaud your concern, but tread carefully.

The good diet for your cousin's kid are letting him or her eat vegetables that are steamed veggies and a glass of milk to slim down.

Eat things in moderation. Lots of fruits & veggies. Some junk food once in awhile. Protein. A variety of foods. That's healthy. Try out different cookbooks. Excercise =)
