Red or Golden and make sure you don't overcook the potatoes, that will make them watery. After you boil the potatoes plunge them into ice water to stop the from cooking more.

Well, it doesn't matter which kind of potatoes you use. To prevent them from being watery, after draining them, put them back in the pot and let the remaining water evaporate out. But keep an eye on them, as the potatoes will burn.

I like Yukon golds, but if her potato salad is runny, is she draining all of the water off after she boils the potato's? Or adding to much Mayo or something like that???

Red potatoes or Yukon Gold. New Potatoes do well too.

red potatoes hold their shape better after boiling. boil them in the skins and then peel after cooling. most of the skin should slip right off.
small gold potatoes work good too.
if you are stuck using brown Idaho potatoes, try boiling them in the skin, just till soft. chill the potatoes for about an hour after you peel and chop them before adding other ingredients. it will help keep them firm.

Personally, I like the little "new potatoes" or the small red ones. leave some skin on and don't mash it too much and it gives more color and absorbs the flavor so well, etc.

I prefer to buy the butter gold potatoes and use them for all my potato recipes. They have a buttery flavor to them so you don't really need to add butter, and you can use them in any recipe, plus they are DELICIOUS!!!!!
