Magnets pose a real danger to children. Intentional or accidental ingestion may require emergency surgery, doctors say.

Children (or adults) who swallow more than one magnet need emergency medical attention,

It's never a good idea for kids (or anyone else) to swallow inedible objects, but it happens frequently. According to researchers, most foreign bodies (80%) that reach the stomach get passed yet 10%-20% may require direct retrieval by a doctor

magnets can seriously damage the stomach or intestine by attracting each other through the lining of different loops of intestine. Ultimately, the magnets could cause a lack of blood flow in the lining and puncture the lining of the intestine.

Yes! There was just a story on TV lately about a young boy who had to have emergency surgery - he had swallowed several magnets from a popular toy, and they were in different parts of his intestines attracted to each other & stopping his intestines from working. Scary!

one small magnet would probably not be a problem. Two magnets, regardless of size, would be a problem since they would be attracted to each other.

U'mmmm, I'd see a Doctor if I were you. To my knowledge intestine walls are thin membranes, and most magnets have corners; ouch!

Not is it is small enough to pass through your G.I. tract without a problem. The fact it is a magnet doesn't matter.

It can't be good. Have you had to pry the child from the refrigerator door or car door..? I'm sorry...lol. I just see this image in my head..."Mommy, mommy, mommy! The refrigerator won't let go of me!" Call your pediatrician, tho...best bet.
