thats just a scare tactic of the pros

but you know what? even if it was true, i wouldnt care. if it was too expensive to grow produce here, we would just import it. its called free market capitalism. so that argument doesnt wash with me.

"Believe" is not an appripriate word when it come to economics.
Every economist will tell you that cheap labor=low prices=big profit for the business.
Why do you think Hershey's makes millions? Well, their cocoa is made by slave children in Africa. They don't get paid much and the chocolate bar costs only a $1. PLus, Hershey's is filled with cheap ingredients(that's why it tastes like plastic in the first place). Now , do you buy crappy Hershey's or a great organic chocolate with all the right ingredients and a gorgeous taste?
No, you buy Hershey's, cause it's cheap.

It is a scare tactic Jr. wants us thinking we need illegals. We don't send them home & close the borders. Prices might increase but 5$ I doubt it... besides I grow my own.
Lazy ppl get off your @ss and grow a garden it's very good for you & the conservatives hate it.

I dont know about the exact price, but yes it would be more expensive. The cost of paying non-immigrants higher wages would mean less profits for the company so in return they pass the extra cost onto the consumer. If we imported our produce it would also be more expensive, importing goods raises the price. Also the food wouldnt be nearly as fresh. It would be difficult to control the standard of veggies grown in other countries.

(in fact this just happened with a shipment of rice that was grown against US standards but made it into the food supply anyways)

they are dirty because they are working with dirt to grow tomatoes and harvest them for the clean white Americans.

and the tomatoes you import were also harvested by the same dirty looking people ,who are dirty for the same reasons

what would you do if the third world countries cannot export anymore ,a likely scenario for the future .

and if you exported the workers
then the Americans would have to get dirty doing their job
and there would be a lot of dirty Americans around

perish the thought

Hell no dude, dont matter if they are $5.00.
All I need is a 5 gallon bucket of dirt and some seeds and I'll grow my own.Besdes,I like your open season idea.
But since we cant:
A 20 foot tall fence with razor wire.
Mass deportation.
The army with orders:SHOOT TO KILL

No one would buy $5 tomatoes so the price would go down. That is unless all our wages went up.

Ditto the last 2 answers...We grow our own produce and don't import or export except to friends....and don't have to worry about dirty unless it's our own hands!!!

It's not just tomatoes, they also work picking up strawberries and all the work in the fields, so every thing would go up, I bet you wouldn't want to end up working as a janitor cleaning toilets and all the dirty jobs they do because nobody else wants to do it.

Ridiculous. Of course not! And if they would I know I wouldn't mind. Illegal is illegal. Period. There is no way to justify anything Illegal. Our economy is defintely taking a beating from all these dang illegals who take advantage of everything the government has to offer.

Illegals should be sent packing!

I seriously doubt it. With the global economy, we can always send the illegals home, then buy tomatoes from that country dirt cheap.
