Jeez, a lot of different answers here, but don't worry, an actual gun dealer is here to answer whatever I can. First, it IS legal to import and produce certain AK's; the assult weapons ban is expired, and even before you could still get them, there were just some real arbitrary things like it couldn't have baynet lugs or certain flash hiders, collapsable stocks and stuff like that. Secondly, there is no federal BAN on fully automatic weapons, some states ban them, but to legally own them you gotta jump through some hoops and spend some money and you can only buy them from a Class III dealer. Now every state has it's own laws and I don't know where your from and probably don't know your state well enough anyway, but that's something to check with. Also, a lot of people DO hunt with them cause they're cheap and so is the ammo, but the 7.62X39 is not a super preformance cartridge. To get it shipped you'll probably have to have it sent by a dealer, to another dealer. Anyone with a Federal Firearms Licence will do this, but they'll charge varing rates unless you got a buddy. Something else to think about, with so many different answers, how do you know who's right? I mean, even I might be wrong(well, not really, but for arguements sake). I'd say just ask a cop or go on the internet and find a BATF guy to call. Or a state attorney's office. Always best to go right to the horse's mouth if you're not sure.

1st things 1st, you cannot hunt with an ak47! secondly, if you order online, it has to be shipped to a ffl dealer, where you will have to go to pick it up after filling out the paperwork. It's perfectly legal to buy firearms over the net, check your state laws concerning the legality of owning an AK style weapon, state laws vary from state to state. if you have the misfortune of living in kalifornia, forget about it.

Nope. It's against US law to import or produce any new AK-47's, but the ones made prior to the ban on assault weapons are legal and can be bought/sold/traded. When you are buying from another individual as opposed to a licensed gun dealer, no background checks or paperwork has to be done at all.

If the gun is being shipped from another state it must be sent to an FFL holder who will do a background check then transfer the gun to you.
If you live in the same state it can be shipped to you.
You need to be over 18

You'd have to have a federal firearm license to do this legally. So the answer is no. Not only could you lose your money, you would also lose the rifle. Depending on where you are, you could also be arrested.

That would depend on the laws of your state. I own an Ak, but bought it in person from a dealer.

They're only illegal if they're automatic. They can be semi-automatic and be perfectly legal.
