Sprinkle with Borax and allow the Borax to soak up any liquid. Then vacuum it up. Then use a carpet cleaner filled with vinegar and hot water, 1:3. Put a lot of the cleaning solution down and then thoroughly extract the vinegar and water mixture.

I would mix 1/3 vinegar with 2/3 water. That should remove the smell from the carpet. Then after you do that put down some carpet pet fresher to cover up the vinegar smell. Should work. Has worked for me!

Unfortunately, nothing really will get the smell out, it will dull it, but it will never completely come out. I used a mixed of vinegar and hot water. Your best bet, if possible, is to pull the rug up in that area and clean the floor underneath with bleach, then paint the floor when its dry, then put the carpet back down. A hassle but that is your best bet. I had an old dog who did quite a few accidents and that is what we had to do.

ammonia and hot water, or vinegar and hot water. For stains use oxy clean, or dawn. Octagon soap will take any stain out but may be harsh on hot colors.
