So far, everyone's answers are pretty accurate: each airline has different rules about what kind of carrier you need, whether or not you can keep pets with you under the seat in the cabin or ship them in cargo, etc.

More specifically to your question about Canada.... what you will need is: 1) proof of rabies vaccination done within the last year, usually in the form of a "rabies certificate" from your vet. They don't care if your pet has had Distemper shots or anything, just Rabies. 2) you'll need what's called an "international travel certificate" from your vet. Basically, you need to have your pet examined by your veterinarian within 30 days of travel to ensure they are free of "transmissable diseases". Some vets charge you to fill out the appropriate paperwork, and others don't. Then, you will need to take this filled-out form (just the form, not your pet) to your local federal animal health office (your vet will have the address) and have them sign off on it. THEN you can fly with your pet. Good luck!!!

you need to get an International Health Certificate from your vet, and a vet exam. Al shots must be up to date, you should not fly a dog for three days after a shot has been given. This must be done 3 to four days before your flight, it must accompany your pet. It is only good for five days and you may need to see a vet to acquire another before you return to the states. You should also carry a bottle of water and nutri-cal if you are carrying him on, or even if sent by petsafe flights, that you will be on as well. Bottled water may be an issue with the airports call and be sure. If you have a flat faced dog you will need a larger crate and learn the necessary things for that breed. You may only send enough food to fill the small bowl that hangs on the door, and a wee pad. Some airlines, want only paper.

Most airlines require a certificate from your vet with proof of shots, yes. You also need to check with the airline regarding the kennel specifications, and if the pet will travel in cargo or in the cabin with you (cats and small dogs can go under the seat in front of you). Make sure you tell them you are bringing a pet, they charge an extra fee and you may have to arrive at the airport early.

Check with all of the airlines individually- some are pet friendly, some not. Find an airline that will let you take your pet as carry-on. DO NOT, under any circumstances fly your pet as cargo- you are better off kenneling him if that is your only option. Do not fly him as checked baggage either- once again kenneling is way more humane. Putting him on cargo is a death sentence. I can tell you that Southwest will not take pets.

Your violin could be carried on, see you later because it may slot contained in the overhead bin effectively. Your guinea pig can be carried on. the cost that you pay permits you to have an additional keep on. So, you could have the guinea pig in his provider, the violin and also one extra own merchandise (handbag, back pak, etc).

Whatever they tell you, do not let them place your pet in cargo. They will mistreat your pet.
