A sympathetic ear, which everyone needs now and then, and a shoulder to lean on...and sometimes cry on. Our Humanist Community regularly joins churches and synagogues in our area in preparing and serving food at the local soup kitchen. We also help build homes for those who need them through Habitat for Humanity, a Christian-based organization that welcomes help from non-Christians.
These are our neighbors, folks, not the neighborhood garbage. Where's your humanity?

whatever comes out of my husbands pay check and 20.00 a week into the donation box at church.
I dont see the poor helping me in anyway, might sound selfish but I do have a child with special needs and when he hits 3 MOST of his therapy and the 5 thousand dollar pre school he will need to attend will probably be paid for BY ME and MY husband.
UNless the poor want to become involved with medical testing to help find a cure for autism or any other disease
I know im horrible, thumbs down me all you want

alms are a constant where I work. Even though we try to separate Drugs from hunger. We bring clothes from home. I devised a system with the local merchants to accept food coupons from me. I set up some on a computer with each food store on it and I buy them from them for a dollar each We encourage our customers to buy and give them out. When some one is hungry we give coupons instead of cash to make sure they eat.
I am happy to be on the giving end.

The truth is I gave 10%. But we are not to let our left hand know what our right hand gave so that we do not brag. If we do brag then we have our reward already. We shouldn't think that we will receive anything from God.

I gave my boyfriend my last dollar, but I'm as poor as he is, so I'm sure he'll return the favor on payday.

Money. The last time I gave food to a homeless person, he yelled at me. So I only give money now.
