My two cockatiels are breeding. The female has layed four eggs so far. I can't keep them and need to give them to a bird store.

Yes, the mother will be very stressed if if her young are taken away. Birds are very much like people- I don't know that much about Cockatiels, but Geese mate for life and when hunters shoot one of them and it's falling from the sky, it's mate often tries to get under it and help it back up into flight. When you see 1 goose all alone it's mate was probably killed and they don't want a new one because they miss their companion. You should talk to a bird specialist and find out at what age you should separate them.

if you take the youngsters away at least around 8 week old they will call for a day or 2 then start nesting again
when my tiels breed if i leave the youngsters in too long they will start get fed up with them and pluck them bald
ive been breeding tiels for 7 years now and i have never heard of the parents getting depressed or dying from having their young removed
when they breed in the wild the young will take off and leave the parents at around 8-10 week old and start their own life

they do call out to them and worry for a few days. But remember in the wild, not as many in a clutch survive, and at some point they fly away. After they get use to you pulling them they do it with no problem, and often let you know when they are ready for you to take these screaming starving beasts, I NEED SOME SLEEP!
