Having told someone else today that 'Mr' is a courtesy title for men, and boys aged 12 and over, I since read another view that 'Master' should be used until the age of 16. I don't want to give false information - I only speak from personal experience; I was 13 or possibly 12 when I was addressed as 'Mr' for the first time, not at my request, let it be understood. And I have seen and heard 'Mr' being used to address boys of this age many times since. I'm not sure whether there is a right or wrong answer to this question or whether it's a matter of personal preference.

It's a matter of personal preference. But, since it is a title for a grown man, it shouldn't be used at least until the boy looks like a man (after puberty). You're correct in saying Master before that time.

When I was in high school, teachers would sometimes address the boys as "Mr.", usually to coax them into behaving like young gentlemen instead of hormonal yard apes.
