you should be able to go in with your Drivers License and title if you have it and let them know that you need to renew-- as long as you have proof that you own it and as they can check the plate records off your VIN (if you don't have your title, bring in your insurance card as it should have your VIN on it) and that should allow you to renew

In Alabama they send out renewal cards and if you lose them then the owner or owners (person(s) whose name is on the registration/title) of the vehicle will have to show there driver licenses to renew the tag. They can send someone else but, that person would have to have a power of attorney. Not sure how other states are but, check with ur DMV so you don't have to make more than one trip.

Just go to the DMV in person, write down your plate number, and the vin number for your car. It shouldn't be a problem.

Call and make sure you even need it. A paper registration is pretty much worthless these days.
