My laptop is not loading properly and coming up with different weird error messages. I called tech support and they determined it wasn't the hardware and they'd need to re-image it and I'd lose all my data! Is there any way to get at it first or save my data now? Where can I look online for tips?

Look for a program called SpinRite. It is great and fixing corrupt hard drives, which sounds like your problem.

sometime computers get so over load with stuff and viruses that it is to hard and time consuming and sometime impossible to fix without re-image . my best advice is don't waste your time trying to fix a problem that may not be fixable and just re-image it

as for backing your files if you have a cd-burner that is the best way to save all your stuff,an even better way is go to staples and buy an external hard drive that connect to your computer via usb port that is alot faster because you don't have to wait for the cd-burner to burn the cd

make sure when you are finished that you install a anti virus/firewall i also use a free program call adwarepersonal it is a software that help delete junk off the computer you can find it at lavasoft.com it is the 3th program on the left side of the site ,

Re-imaging may not be the only solution, but it is the best solution. Just take some discs and back up the important files on your computer. As far as they programs go, ask tech support what they will be installing back on it.

I believe that you can still get your data out of your laptop before reformatting. Get an IT expert to help out.

do you have a cd burner on there? you could try making backups of your data. as long as you have cds of your software, you will be able to reinstall those. if you have music, documents and other files, just try saving them to a cd or floppy.
