Good point, maybe we didn't come from monkeys. How come we don't have some "hairless monkeys" if we evolved from them, and we have hairy monkeys.

This would have been better if posted in a science category, BTW.
Not sure whether I buy this, but I read in a book that it's because there was a time during our development when we spent a lot of time in water. Marine mammals tend to loose fur (whales, for example) because you swim better -- less Resistance.
I'm pretty sure the book I read this in was The Lopsided Ape (lopsided being a reference to the differentiation between the right and left hemispheres of our brains).
The answer about running given by Billy! sounds reasonably plausible to me.
You might check the website below, which is the UC Berkeley Museum of Paleontology's web site (on evolution). They might have something on it.

Human beings started to stand erect and were able to run over longer distances. Not being very well armed with lightning quick reflexes or claws, etc humans started to use thier brains and tools to get more food more quickly.
When one animal took another down, buzzards would circle overhead. A human hunter would know that there was a carcass and knew that the sooner he got there the more food there would be. As such he would run. After 1000s of years of this we became conditioned to run over long distances (long winded). This required the creation of enormous heat and the need to dissipate is rapidly. As such the humans with less hair were able to get there first, eat more and breed better than the hairier ones and thus multiplied more and here we are today.
Furless.

Republicans made us all shave it off because they felt having fur "sent the wrong message".
