I'd probably do some research on baby toys and find out if there was something really neat available in the US that isn't available in China, that way to make a really unique present for the baby. I would think bringing a baby gift to China would mean that one is really close to the family, but might not see the baby for a while. So if you could find something, especially something that might be useful for the first few years and not just for a short while, maybe as the child gets older the parents can tell the child about you and let them know you cared enough to get this unique gift.

little american blue jeans for the infant or things very american that truly is not "made in china"--something you can't find there--even Baby Gap items, etc.
