Some studies show that consumption of wine and beer in moderation is healthy. Studies also show that people who drink in moderation tend to live a little longer than those who are teetotal. If you enjoy drinking a beer, or a glass of wine then by all means go ahead and enjoy a glass with your dinner on the weekend. But if you aren't a drinker, and don't enjoy then I say the health benefits aren't really worthwhile to drink. Some companies make organic beer and wine, without unlisted additives, so if you wanted to drink could always take this option.

There seem to be many studies that say that drinking wine in moderation - 1 or 2 glasses a day - appears to be more healthy than drinking none, or than drinking a lot (5 or 6 glasses a day).
It appears to help the circulatory system and help prevent heart disease.
Sometimes people refer to the "french paradox" because the french do other typically unhealthy behaviours, but often don't show the results, apparently because they drink wine frequently.

Most things that we normally consume on a regular basis can be good for you or bad for you, depending on how much of it you consume. Beer and wine both have quite a bit of good ingredients in them. Used in moderation, you can gain some usable nutrients that you body can use, however, the problem lies in the excess use of them.

A small glass of red wine a day is deemed to be a healthy thing. It has the equivalent antioxidants (good for you) of two cups of tea, and is supposed to be good for your heart.
