It used to be that is was a terrable offence to say YHVH, but and same in Muslem and Chiristain places. However I don't think that say god da mn it is using Gods name in vain compared to, oh I don't know... THE CRUSADES. Every one of the "Gods name in vain" religions has exploited it. Let me tell you the end of the story of purim. The king says that the jews are allowed to defend themselves. So the jews gather in groups and kill thousands. King asks Ester are you happy and she says "no,let me do it again" and they do it again and there is much rejoiceing. As far as christains, there was the crusades, the spanish inquisition... As far as Islamic people, its more of their "leaders" rewriting the Koran to say that they have to become suicide bombers. What is your definition.

The koran was not rewritten to say you should kill unbelievers Muhamed wrote it that way to began with.

Thats not true, acually the Golden Age of islam when the best of all religions gathered in bagdad and learned from each other. The only restriction was not having to fight and having to pay a tax for that.

That's a very interesting question (I'm glad I stopped to read the additional details).
Basically, I think we take God's name in vain by living a life that doesn't please Him, by not worshipping Him as the one and true living God, by instead choosing to worship idols (such as money, cars, houses, etc). In the book of Proverbs in the Bible, it says the name of the Lord is a strong tower where the righteous run into and are safe. When ppl of God worry and fret over situations, instead of taking their problems to God, they are making a statement that God is not important in their lives, so in effect, they are taking God's name in vain.
The name of God is a very fearful name that we should respect totally, and not just say it to be cute, like when we say "Oh my God" when we're excited or shocked, or sad. We should only call God when we want Him, because He is a present need in our time of trouble. If we're just saying it because we don't have anything else to say and we really don't want God to come into that situation, then we will be judged when the time comes.
I'm certainly not holier than thou-- I've done it, a lot... And I've definitely felt immediately bad after using God's name in vain, whether it be literally, or figuratively (when I'm not taking my problems to Him and truly honoring Him as the God of my life).
Our global society disrespects God so much! If I was God, I'd destroy everybody, but thankfully I'm not. You're right, every religion has exploited God for the selfish purposes of mankind. It's important to have a personal relationship with God that isn't dependant on going to a church/synagouge/mosque every week. The more you allow other ppl to tell you who God is, the more dependant you are on them to tell you who you are as well... and the more suspectible you are to being used in some religion's attempts to rule the world (every religion has done it). It's best to find a way to think for yourself, and to seek God for yourself.. because if you truly know God, you certainly won't be taking Him or His name in vain, and if you do, you'll regret it.

Using God's name in vain is using it to denote disgust, i.e. as a curse word, or attributing things that are not of God to God, i.e. the murder of babies(abortion), the crusades, etc.(but not the death penilty because god said that you are to stone murders, adulterers, and others, there are other punishments though read the New Testiment because there are to many to mention), also saying that you are Christian and not loving others, because you are taking the name of God and acting in an ungodly manner. The koran was not rewritten to say you should kill unbelievers Muhamed wrote it that way to began with.

For you to use the Lord's name in vain, it is a sin. Concerning The Crusades, killing people, as you probably know, is a sin. The Bible states that if you break one law, you break them all. For instance, if you go over the speed limit, you break the law. When you break the law, you deserve to get punished. Same with sin. You sin once and you deserve to be punished by God. Breaking the law is disobeying the government. Sinning is disobeying God. And yeah, going 5 over the speed limit is not as bad as killing someone but you still broke the law. Breaking the law is breaking the law no matter how you look at it or try to explain it. Same with sin. A sin is a sin no matter what.
How have the religions exploited using the Lord's name in vain? And why are you blaming today's Christians for The Crusades and today's Jews for killing thousands? It's like if I were to blame you for the death of President Lincoln. You had nothing to do with it (obviously) and we had nothing to do with killing thousands of people.

Islamic leaders dont rewrite the Quran... and u know what i have no answer to ur question, bcuz there r the good and ppl in the world.. ur kinda generalizing... suicide bombing isnt wrong if it happens in the country invaded, but its wrong when they go over other countries and kill innocent ppl.. ppl kinda mix it up.. ppl can defend their country however they want, nd thats by fighting the enemies(soldiers).. thats wat i think!! plz do not generalize... and no every1 using Gods name in vain!! ppl who respect themselves can never use Gods name in vain!! thats my answer to that

using the name of God in place of a cuss word, and yes, "dropping the G bomb" is the same thing. would say that when you use the name of Jesus the same way it is also blasphemy.

To invoke or command God to do something, hence the aversion to the phrase: God damn it (commanding God to actually damn something in the form of a curse).

It is like when you say oh my God or anything that doesn't relate to Christianity! Or if you say God and any other curse word with it!

Anything that falls under blasphemy. I think you have enough disgression to know what is and isn't. Just don't use God's name in anything but reverence respect and love ^.^
