first they(with his father and his uncle maffeo) went by ship to mediterranean coast of turkey.then they went on land and passed through what is today iran and afghanistan.they crossed and mountains and rivers.they have to travel for 3 years.
don't forget that it was in 1265 and marco polo was born in in venice in 1254 so you know how old he was in 1265.
