How does the Catholic Church and the Pope (and all other leaders within the church) justify the fact that they are letting people die needlessly?

Condoms would help to prevent the transmission of HIV infection. With millions of people infected, including pregnant women who pass the infection to the unborn child.

Where is the sense of responsiblity for CARING for God's people? Where is the accountability? Banning condoms is a foolish, stupid old notion that has NO relevance!!!

Shame on the Pope and on anybody else who lets people suffer and die -- when it could be prevented!

Because they can prevent death, yes. If a child was conceived, it would most likely have AIDS. Also, the spouse/partner would then get AIDS. Just imagine what would happen if condoms became available like that, and how many thousands of lives they could save. Yes, they should endorse it, if the Catholic Church truly is pro-life.

I do not think so. On a religious point of view specially the Catholics using condoms is not the real answer to population control or aids. Artificial control would teach people more to be promiscous rather the be a responsible person. Psycologists oftentimes pervert the idea that sexual urge is a natural and normal thing for any human person that sense of guilt is not healthy.
The Church would not want to put people living in guilt but rather to make them aware of the responsibility each has to face on certain circumstances that may arise as a result of an irresponsible act. Proper education and social awareness is what is needed not condoms.

I think people in areas where HIV is more common should use condoms. In fact, I think people everywhere should use condoms to protect against STD's and unwanted pregnancies.

BUT I don't think that the Catholic Church should change their religious stance on condoms in response to current events. Remember, the Church has an official stance on pre-marital sex as well, and STD's are alot less likely to spread when each person is only sleeping with their husband or wife.

Did anybody reading this question stop to consider that the laws of the Catholic Church are not really important to alot of people in Africa anyway?

What we are talking about is a matter of life and death. Stating the age-old, worn-out homely of, "It's god's will," just doesn't cut it when you're talking about the annihilation of an entire continent. We, here in the west, don't fully understand the horror taking place in Africa. Children now head households because they've had to bury their parents and grandparents. There are few adults left in many villages to mentor the young ones with the implications being devastating now and into the future.

Compassion. That's what the church lacks here. They need to get past their set of rules and begin acting like the Christ they revere. A compassionate, loving human being who would have done everything in his power to ease this horror story of pain and suffering.

No; that's the same as endorsing HIV infection.
The Catholic Church endorses abstinence 1st, faithfulness to one's partner 2nd, and condom use only as a last resort, i.e. if one can't be either abstinent or faithful, in which case he or she is almost choosing AIDS anyway.

Yes, additionally, the Catholic church should fold up all together. I have rarely seen a bigger group of hypocrites. The Catholic church is totally out of touch with the real world.
