I honestly do not have a personal cause. I have always tried to help others in any way that I can.
I have taken in people to help them get off addictions, one kid we put into the Navy after his bout with cocaine, and stealing...the whole bit, unfortunately that did not work out for him.
Another Family we tried to help but some people need to Help themselves. Humans can become greedy and selfish.
I have saved a lot of Birds, I once had a pet Blue jay, I named her Christada, she had club feet, and I would take her to the vet to get her nails clipped, she died after four years of life...I miss her.
I bake a lot, and cook, and I have been known to feed many of the neighborhood kids, some of them never even tasting food made from scratch.
I guess I am for women's rights, but I still like a Man to open a door for me, and if I cannot perform the job, I still don't think I should be paid the same amount as the Man. (Sorry girls)

I guess it's not much of a personal cause, and I believe you have to start in your own backyard if you want to see things change or get better. Which by the way, I have to go mow.
Thanks for asking.

This is a terrific question amongst a sea of frivolous ones.
Wish I could say I did more.
• Animal rights is big with me in a reviving urban environment. I 've taken in countless animals, placed them, and tried to talk to locals who mistreat pets and just don't get it. I wish I could do more to relieve animal suffering but I'm poor and time is about all I can give right now. Mine is a Southern city, where poor folks have a lot to learn.
• I'm working hard in a Southern Baptist church (and I'm a Presbyterian) to help bring (mostly poor) local black kids and adults into a church still harboring some lingering racism.
• I'm a recovering alcoholic (10 years) and try to help other recovering alcoholics.
• Hunger in Namibia, Sudan -- I want to help, what can I do...I'm so afraid of my meagre donations being diverted.
• Strongly believe in caring for the environment. I recycle meticulously, big deal.
Obviously I need to ACT more, hope I get some ideas from your other respondents. Again, great question, and makes me reevaluate how I can DO more. Thanks and sorry for long answer.

My personal cause is the homeless. It gets very cold where I live and it is dangerous for them. A majority of them have a mental illness that prevents them from seeking help, so even if there are good public asst. programs available they do not get the needed help. In my state (and maybe in all states) a person cannot get food stamps, medical assistance, etc. unless he or she has a residential address (no addresses of shelters, etc.)

I have limited resources, but what I am doing now is the SOCKS FOR THE HOMELESS program. I started it in my church. We get a pair of new socks and put inside a free fast food voucher and a piece of candy. I know it doesn't sound like much, but the homeless person gets a pair of clean, warm, dry socks, a little treat and a fast food meal. They don't have to go anywhere to get these, someone just comes along and hands it to them.

And, in case someone wonders; no, we do not put religious info into the sock nor do we insist on witnessing to the homeless. Their physical needs are taken care of first.

Environment, human rights, and health care.
I don't own a car and don't want to unless I one day have to. I bring my own bags to the grocery store and by recycled everything when I can. I recycle. I try to keep my consumption to a minimum. I don't watch or own a television. I vote. I pay attention to whats going on in the world and get my news from as many different sources as possible. I am trying to get a job at the local asylum seekers center. I am studying to be a medical doctor and when I'm done I'd like to donate a month out of each year to a clinic in a third world country.

Homelessness & hunger. Despite being unable to provide shelter for all who are homeless, a friend & I take it upon ourselves to provide warmth to the homeless in winter, as best we could. Over the last 5 years we have distributed approx 300 comforters & blankets to the homeless who cannot find shelter on the really cold nights. Where hunger is concerned, I do not contribute to any particular organisation, but help in providing a meal or two to some within my locality.

think both the environment and women's right is about the same. if we don't look into some of the problems and plans to improve the problem we are in trouble with the womens rights, i think that the women are still not being taken for granted; and we have a lot of to give to the world if they will listen.

I have started a resource exchange for children in foster care. The community has been very kind and has donated clothing, personal care items and other things so that when a child enters foster care they can have some things of their own. We are now looking toward getting a non profit status and a new home as we have outgrown our present space in just 7 weeks time!

I don't know if I could name causes. I have a lot of compassion for people and try to help where I can. I also love the outdoors. I love conservation efforts.

I don't have access to much money, so the ways in which I help are these.

I financially give to Samaritan's Purse. It's an organization that helps people all over the world in various situations. I'm able to afford giving for milk and food for people. Blankets, mosquito nets, chickens for families to raise for eggs, etc... They have a list of things from small things to large. It's nice to be able to choose something specific for someone and be able to do it. I also do their Christmas Box program to send toys and candies and some needs to underprivileged children around the world.

I donate blood six times a year through the Red Cross to help people in life threatening situations. I am also a trained Red Cross Shelter volunteer in order to help people locally when disaster comes upon them.

I do prep work and cook and clean in my church's soup kitchen. It's a lot of work, but I enjoy doing something for others. Others that I can see face to face each week. I'm able to get to know the people that come. Get to know their children. Talk to them, pray for them and help them out with needs when I'm able or help them find someone who can.

I also give what I can to a local camp for children who have a syndrome that prevents them from going into the sunshine. The camp is called Camp Sundown and provides a place for kids to get outdoors and do things they wouldn't otherwise be able to do. They do these things at night instead of during the day. They have donation cans in stores and I always give my change and last year at Christmas I started asking whoever in the family draws my name to make a donation to Camp Sundown for my gift.

My daughter and I pick up trash when we're out on walks or hikes to help keep our environment clean. We turn in the cans and other recyclables and save the money. When we have a fair amount of money we take it to the Humane Society to help the animals.

I know some of these things are just little things, but it's all I can afford to do, so I do what I can the best that I can.

Right now, my personal cause is my kids. We do our best to raise them right, to be tolerant, understanding, and respectful of others, and to be the best people that they can be. Not an easy task, as a quick look around can show you the people who just let their kids be raised by TV and are not given any guidelines or goals to achieve. I expect more than my kids can deliver (yet), and they do their hardest to achieve it. This, along with plenty of love, praise, and appreciation, and time spent with them, makes all the difference.
