I am currently in one. We've been together for a year and 7 months now (and going hopefully). I have to admit, being in a long distance relationship is very hard. It takes a whole lot of effort, time, patience, understanding and love for it to work. I know it also sucks that you don't get to see that special someone for a very loong time, but when you do, TRUST me, it's all worth it. Just like any relationship, love, communication, honesty and trust are very essential. Now, long distance relationship is definitely not for everyone...but don't hesitate to try it and see if it works for you or not. Remember, love knows no boundaries..

Could be fun if you use cheap internet facilities to stay "in touch", and can afford to meet physically from time to time. Other than that it could be a real boring experience, full of mutual suspicion, mistrust and inevitable cheating. A lot of maturity is required to handle this situation. The longer it gets the more difficult it becomes and at some point failure to get assurance by physical contact could be damaging to the realtionship. If both of you could find time to discuss these issues before hand it should help, somehow.

I have found that unfortunitly, they just don't work out. Good intentions from both people helps, but when it comes down to it, it gets too stressful. One of the biggest parts of having a relationship is having that someone there when you need them. Whether its a hand to hold, shoulder to cry on, or just a set of eyes to look into, it is nearly impossible with a long distant relationship. Unless one of you are willing to relocate, I don't think it would work. But completly your choice, you could have lots of fun while it lasts. Good Luck

It is hard, but it can work. When I first met my husband he was in college in Australia and me here in the U.S. We just stayed focused and committed to each other. We talked on line and via phone many times a day, sent cards, little gifts etc. True love knows no bounds.

I dont know, I have a similar dilemma as I'm going away to London and leaving my boyfriend here in a month. I don't know how it could work so I think we'll break up. Good luck with yours though!

totally sucks. thousands of hours on the phone...
depends on how long you'll be apart. if i were you i wouldn't put too much pressure on keeping the relationship super-serious. accept that physical is needed just as much as emotional and if it doesn't work (which neither of mine did) accept that it's really no one's fault. people grow apart if the bond isn't really strong to begin with.
