Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral code of conduct or the state of having committed such a violation. In monotheistic religions, the code of conduct is determined by God. Colloquially, any thought, word, or act considered immoral, shameful, harmful, or alienative might be termed "sinful".
Common ideas surrounding sin in various religions include:
* Punishment for sins, either from other people, from God either in life or an afterlife, or from the Universe in general
* The question of whether or not an act must be intentional to be sinful
* The idea that one's conscience should produce guilt for a knowing sin
* A scheme for determining the seriousness of the sin
* Repentance from (expressing regret for and determining not to commit) sin, and atonement (repayment) for past deeds
* The possibility of forgiveness of sins, often through communication with a deity or intermediary; in Christianity often referred to as salvation
Crime and justice are related secular concepts.

Sin is a willful disobedience of God's laws. Transgression is a breaking of God's laws without the willfulness aspect. In a broader definition, "he that knoweth to do good and doeth it not, to him it is sin". Thus, we have sins of commision and sins of omission. We can sin by doing something wrong and we can sin by not doing something right. Thus, the priest and the Levite that passed the wounded merchant sinned because they knew to help and did not help. The Samaritan, a traditional adversary, stopped and helped, showing the more Godlike qualities that we should all emulate.

shell: No actually it isn't! Sin is disobedience to God's commandments and his commandments are not burdensom but healthy for you.
No animal instincts in lieing, stealing, committing adultry or fornication. Murder may be an animal instint. But will not strike at something they cannot eat. That is why unless provoked or stepped on even a rattlesnake doesn't stike a cow or horse.
Usually small rodents because he eats them.

When your action is taken to task by your conscious voice you have commit ed a sin.
For example in a fit of excitement you rape!! When things cool off, you have a voice speaking to you did you do it right?? I am sure it will voice "NO" well you have committed a sin my friend......if it doesn't well I suppose you have no conscious at all and there is no sin for you in what you do. However time will justify your wrong deeds...........
