lol. Sounds about right. That's what I hear them saying. I think you forgot the part about His boy really being Him incarnate. Adds a nice little twist to the same insanity!

The reason Jesus came was to show humanity what God was like, and convince them that God is an infinitely better master than Satan. That said, billions of people still follow Satan. While I could argue that that means Jesus didn't do a good job, I think it is more His followers fault.
Second thing, is that Satan killed Jesus, by ordering around his servants (the soldiers and Caiaphus, etc.). Therefore, God was showing the universe that Satan was evil. While this might have been assumable prior to this, the death of Jesus was the evidence.
Thirdly, it was a legal transaction, sort of like the criminal code. Here in Canada, 1st degree murder = 25 years, automatic. It could be longer, with other circumstances, but if you're convicted, you get 25 years. God, as judge, was required to mete a penalty out the humanity; if the judge didn't give the required penalty, he is obviously unjust; Jesus, His Son, offered to take the penalty. It's not the wrath of God that will burn people in hell at the end--it's His justice.
And as for the argument "what's illegal about adultery," etc., the true law of God is not the 10 commandments, but the law that Jesus gave: "love one another." The opposite of that is sin.
So the quote is simple, yes; but not quite precise.

That is actually an ignorant statement full of misconception and misunderstanding. It astounds me that a person that would professes so much intelligence, and claim they actually read the Bible (the whole thing???), would put any stock in a quote like this. I mean even if you did not believe the Bible, you cannot deny its literary genius- it is beautifully written and to reduce it to a comment like this proves that the person that said it either didn't read it or didn't have the mental capacity to make it through just the book of John. I wonder about all these atheists and others who say they have read the Bible- hearing a scripture taken out of context here and there, hearing a few quotes commented on in the church or starting a chapter and falling asleep on it don't quite count as reading the Bible. And for those few that have actually read the whole thing or close to it- try reading it with what you like to call an 'open mind' If you go into something in ignorance, setting out to disprove it or find fault with it from the start- you won't gain anything of value, learn anything new, or prove yourself open minded and intelligent.
Statements like this do nothing more than prove that.
** It occurs to me that that statement is just about as ignorant if not more than the statement 'evolutionists think humans evolved from monkeys'

Your question shows your ignorance. First why not read the book and find out for yourself instead of someone else?
God sent His Son to die for your sins, because He does love you and does not want to see you perish unto eternal punishment. You are not perfect, you do sin against God. Christ Jesus died for you, me and anyone else who would recieve Him. He took on the sins of everyone and not only went through an agonizing death, but also and worst of all, for the punishment to be paid in full, Jesus was removed from God's love and presence. From the beginning, Jesus has always been with God, the " Alpha and the Omega. " This is a pain that you can not even fathom. This is a pain you will never experience if you accept God's free gift of love to you. Otherwise, you have to pay for your sins. And who are you to tell God that He is wrong. Don't you think that that is to say the least, arrogant? That is an extremely absurd thing to do. Did God ask you for any help in anything? What can you do to better God? You want to play God? To set yourself up as Most High? This is why lucifer was kicked out of Heaven. Your arrogance will be your downfall for an eternity.
You might want to think twice about it.
The choice is yours. It is called free will. Another beautiful gift of God.

You left out a step -- that's why it makes no sense to you. Your sentence should read: "God sent His boy to His people so that His people could kill His Boy in order for Him to be a sacrifice for their sins, which will save those who believe from the wrath of God."
The earliest confirmation of this I can find in the Bible occurs at Isaiah 53.
I hope this helps. Peace.

Yes, but the one simple quote would have a word count only slightly shorter than the Bible itself. The contradiction and complexity of the Christian Faith defies a tagline. It is as much a faith as it is a guide for the human experience. You wouldn't presume to think you could sum-up the human experience in a little ditty would you?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but be born to eternal life.
For almost any parent, the thing they love the most is their child. They nurture them, ween them, and watch them grow into adults. It is the legacy a family leaves. However, for the greater good of all mankind, God gave up the only son he had to save the souls of mankind as a whole, and since Jesus resuurected from the dead, all is well... Just remember, this was from the book of John which is a very poetic and symbolic Gospel. You can't necessarily take it at face/word value

You have managed the impossible. You hit the nail on the head, yet missed it by a mile.
God created Hell for the sake of Satan and those who follow him.
God let His Son die, so He would take all the suffering you deserve upon Himself, so you don't have to go to Hell.
You only go to Hell if you follow in Satan's footsteps... ie rebelling against God, aka sinning. Everyone has followed in Satan's footsteps at one time or another, and just once is all it takes (all it took for Satan to fall was... you guessed it... just once).
Jesus took your punishment upon Himself, and all He asks in return is to believe in Him, turn away from the path Satan took (ie the path of sinning, ie stop breaking God's laws) and ask forgiveness for it, to love God as much as possible, and love your neighbor as much as you love yourself. It is upon you fulfilling that there that you are spared from Hell.
Think of God like a Father... It is not so much that He is sparing you from an uncalled-for anger... He is sparing you from the hearty spanking and grounding you deserve for ignoring every one of the household rules your entire life, and all He asks for is a simple, yet heartfelt and truthful "I'm sorry, I'll do my best not to do it again".

The Lord Jesus himself said this (paraphrasing): that the greatest of commandments, the meaning of life, is to love God and ALL people. Every commandment rests on this.

No.
As far as I know, no major Christian denomination teaches that "eternal damnation" comes from "the wrath of god".
The idea is that because of sin, our natural state is now damnation, and that faith in Jesus saves us from that damnation. But the damnation is not God's will - it's the product of what we have done.
Now, I don't believe a word of that, but c'mon folks, if we're going to argue with the Christians let's get it right, and leave the strawman arguments to them. We can be better than this, and we're going to have to be a LOT better than them if we're going to hope to get things back on the right track.
