Usually the bride dictates what everyone wears because in traditional American weddings, it's all about the the bride. She's the one who gets to decide how everything looks, what the theme is going to be, etc. Some brides go so far as to tell their bridesmaids what brand of pantyhose or shade of nailpolish to wear!

That said, there's not reason for it to always be like that. There's no groom at my wedding, but I'm letting my brother (the Best Man) pick out his own tux. I totally trust his taste and know he'll look good no matter what.

The groom can pick out his own outfit if he wants too. Most grooms want NOTHING to do with the wedding. My husband did a lot for our wedding! He drew our picture for what he wanted our cake to look like and we both liked it, he helped pick our my dress, veil, tiara, shoes. We picked the colors, flowers, decorations. He helped pick out the food, drinks. He helped with everything except pick out the flowergirl and bridesmaids dresses. He was wonderful. If you want to help just let your bride know. There are lots of things, you can were a bow tie, a tie, a vest, different colors, a flower, a long jacket, short jacket. Just a lot of things.

I know a lot of men who couldn't care less about the details, including what he wears. But I'm starting to see more and more men want to be included in the decision making process, which I think is great!

Taking this to the extreme - my boyfriend (who has great taste in clothes and a good eye for what looks good on me) actually whined once that he didn't understand why he couldn't at least help a little in picking out the wedding gown!! *laughing* I have a feeling that he will NOT allow me to have sole discretion on the men's attire when we get to the wedding plans.

Because the bride has been planning this day since she was 12, and she knows what looks good. She also knows the style of her dress and the bridesmaids dresses, so knows what style the tux should be in. I think you should have some input, but it's her final call.

The groom can ware what he want as long as it goes with the level of formality that they both agreed on. My hubby wore his kilt with a tux Jacket and Bow tie. He did have me help pick out the tuxes that the grooms men wore.

He does, usually.

The bride wears a wedding dress, so she picks out a wedding dress. Grooms wear tuxes, so he picks out a tux.

It's not so much that they can't...men just normally don't...While planning my wedding i tried to include my hubby in all of the decisions but he just said "do it however you want it"...It kinda upset me at first because i felt like he didn't care...but after talking to him about it...he made a really good point...He said " Honey, girls dream about their weddings their whole life...I want this to be exactly what you always wanted"....and that's true...Most guys couldn't care less what colors are used or what kind of flowers or anything like that....most guys aren't into things like that...Every detail in a wedding is so important to a woman tho!

The only one who wouldn't allow a groom to choose his clothing is a control freak bridezilla. Otherwise, if he's old enough to get married, he's old enough to dress himself.

My husband picked out the tuxes, shirts, vests and ties. I went along for a second opinion ONLY. It was all his doing.

The only say I had was that he pick ivory for the shirts and his vest instead of white, because my dress was ivory, and that was it.

well i didn't pick out my husband's tux & if he couldn't have picked out something that simple i would have wondered why. i told him the deadline & he knew what colors i had picked out but he picked the the style for himself, his best man, groomsmen & my stepdad & my brother, who were my escorts. he even took me along to the fittings to make sure i liked what he had chosen & if i thought it looked nice on him.
