The schooling, discipline, and leadership skills learned in the military are good foundations for careers. After four years in the Air Force, I ended up being an executive in the computer and telecommunications industries and traveled all over the world.
A friend, who recently passed away, began his adult life as a punk in a Brooklyn burrough. He retired from the Navy as a Petty Officer and became a Labor boss in New York constructing many of the high rise buildings and owned a nice home on the watre on Long Island. If he had not joined the Navy, he would most likely have ended up in prison.
Another friend ended up running most of the railway system in NY and is now retired on a multi-acre estate. Another friend ended up his career as a corporate pilot and is retired in his own home in PA.
There are other good stories but, I don't know anyone who's career suffered because they joined. The thing is that even after the military, you are going to need a college degree to be considered for some really good jobs. The military will pay for this too. Prospective employers like to see the military on your resume because it lets them know that you have developed a sense of personal discipline.
It will for sure not be a bad thing and most likely will be a very good thing.

The Air Force can be a good choice. Look ahead at what the GI bill can do for you. I got a BS in engineering from the VA after getting out of the Air Force.
Don't just take any job they offer. Pick one with training and travel or whatever you are interested in.
Ask them if there is a deal that if you do not get the training you want or the job that you want that they allow you to leave.
Otherwise they will sign you up for electronics as an example and then if you can't make the grade you become a cook.
Get the deal in writing.
Good luck!

Talk to a recruiter. There are some restrictions to joining the military, and some specific ones for the Air Force. Since you are a woman, I am not sure you get to fly fighter planes yet. But there are height and size restrictions (for fitting into cockpits) as well as vision restrictions. Before you sign on to a life of sitting behind a desk, because you aren't fit to train - check these things out. One of my best friends always wanted to be a pilot, but because of his height and his vision, he never would have been able to fly.

If I was going to join the Air Force would be my choice. I wanted to join in 1986 but medical reasons kept me out.

What other move do you have? Another branch of the military? If that is the case gather as much info you can and go over it and then decide. But I agree that you sound like you really want to do this. I don't think it will be a "bad move" for you if anything it will be a learning exp.

Air Force is supposedly the best choice out of all the branches.
If I had to do it all over again I'd probably go Air Force.

Its a good option and above all its your interest that counts .
Never do anything subject to force (even if its air force !).
Anyway before deciding make sure that you are physically and mentally fit in-order to avoid any disappointments in future .

Good Idea. Best of the Services because it offers jobs that provides time to live and enjoy your Family. It also provides the time for free, or low cost College Education. Between the educations, and the work experience, you will have a greater change to obtain a GOOD Job when you return to Civilian Life.
