I am looking to start up Capoeira - hints/tips/schools/teachers...I have the trousers (an encouragement present from a fellow Capoeira doer!)

I play a little. Out of all the martial arts I've studied, Capoeira is the most fun but also physically the hardest. I find it a bit like playing hacky sack. You gather in a circle with a bunch of friends and play. At first, you're struggling with the basics, but after a bit you're improvising and playing around, having fun. If you look at the history of Capoeira, it is about letting go an enjoying the freedom of the moment.

If you pay attention, you'll also learn a thing or two that will help you out in real life and on the street. That is part of the art. Some people that post here don't think so, but having studied a wide variety of arts, I can tell you they are full of it. Come on, unless you're starting them, you won't actually be in very many real fights. In almost twenty years of study, I've only been in one fight (a guy tried to rob me, didn't work out so well for him). So, grab your pants and go, have fun and enjoy your freedom.

Go with the friend that gave the pants to you, or go find a local place they teach it.
It's pretty cool, my younger brother does it.

I think people who practice this art refer to themselves as "players".
