Does anybody have any good gift ideas? What should I wear? Are reservations hard to come by this time of year?

Where is he doing his BCT at??

The day prior to graduation, there will be a Family Day. He'll get to spend most of that day with you. Usually there's a luncheon or dinner. During that time, there's usually a nice display of what they endured during BCT. He'll receive a pass to spend the rest of the day with you, but he'll have to be in the barracks for lights out.

Granduation Day is awesome. The ceremony itself is powerful. All the soldiers will say their creed/retake the oath. There will be a slide show of them in training. All the Drill Sergeants will be introduced and there will be a couple short speaches. After that, each soldier will walk across the stage to receive his diploma. He'll shake hands with 2-6 people. It's a very proud moment for them and the families. After that, he'll be given pass again and have to return for lights out. Whether or not you see him the next day, depends on if he has to report immediately to AIT. Usually they start shipping out in the middle of the night til they're all gone.

As to what to wear, that depends where he is. Most of the girlfriends/wives are barely dressed. You don't have to be formal, just nice. I suggest you book your reservations ahead. I know here, we fill up fast.

All that said, I'm an "old timer" now. I'd ask that you respect his uniform. Sitting on his lap and kissing all over him are not allowed in uniform. You'll see it happen, but it's wrong. Yes, you can hug him and hold his hand, but remember, he's in uniform and that represents something.

Any further questions, please just let me know. I'd also like to remind you that all this depends on where he's doing his BCT at. This is the basics of it here.

Good luck and always be proud of your soldier!!

Wear casual -- Slacks, Blouse, comfortable shoes (in other words -- athletic shoes -- High Heels will NOT do here) -- most likely the graduation is outside -- as far as reservations go -- there usually are none (on parade grounds -- sometimes some are inside), so your boyfriend will be told how many and where the graduation will be so he can then inform 1st Sgt/Drill Instructor how many will be coming (and make sure you have identification - because you will need to show it at the gate). Good Gift Ideas -- Take Photos of the Graduate and make a scrapbook -- including the displays, with his family, etc. That makes a good memory for the graduate (and the Newly minted servicemember will have an opportunity to purchase or be given a copy of the graduation ceremony by the service's official photographer -- very cheap).

Try to book a hotel room in advance, I'd say more than 2 week before. Dress accdg. to the weather since it's more than likely to be outdoors. You said BCT so I assume that he's in the Army. Plan for a place where you can spend 6 -8 hours on. There usually is a Family Night before the ceremonies the next day. Bring the letter that invites you to the ceremony and photo IDs (I recommend Driver's Lic., State IDs and a Passport) - at least 2 of them. Depending on his branch, and orders, he might get to stay home with you for 2 weeks after his graduation or he can go straight to his Unit or he can also go home that same day if he's a reservist/guardsman. And as soon as you hug him, greet him with a big proud "HOOAH!" Trust me, he'll love you!!! =)

I'm not saying he won't but you would also like to have him personally confirm that he will graduate on that day because there is a possibility that he might not for whatever reason.

There is nothing you really need to bring unless he asks for it. Dress is not really a concern as you will see people there wearing everything from suits and ties to flip flops so I would say dress for the weather. I would recommend conservative-casual. Reservations are usually pretty easy to get, just make sure you are making them plenty of time in advance.
