Ben Joseph, meaning "Son of Joseph". There are several Biblical verses that suggest some of the Biblical writers believed he was Josephs physical son (not God's), putting Jesus in the line of King David. This is, after all, the only way he could have fulfilled the Jewish Messaiah prophecy.

His lineage was from King David. In those times, people weren't referred to by last names, but by who their father's grandfathers, great-grandfathers, etc, were and where they were from. Jesus was known as "Jesus, son of Joseph of Nazareth"

Last names didn't come about until the late Middle ages. Those too had something to do with their families (Johnson (John's son) or Smith (for the occupation of Blacksmith))

Family names were not invented until much later. I have been studying my Irish genealogy and Ireland did not take surnames (for you public school kiddies that means last name) until around 1100 AD.

In some places in the world, they still don't exactly use last names.

I worked some years ago with a man from India named:

Anangur Venketakrishna Viswanathan. (SP?)

People who know how can tell from his name exactly where he was born. I can't, because I don't know where Anangur India is.

His personal names is Viswanathan. We called him A.V. Heh, heh.

Jesus did not have a last name. He was referred to as "of Nazareth". People traveled infrequently enough to not require last names. Last names also came from their or their family's profession - Smith, Baker, etc.

Last name was O'Reilley, but He changed it because the Irish were not popular in the Middle East back then. But He never forgot his Irish roots and continued to drink Guinness all His life. Amen.
