I have an email attachment in "dat". What can I use to open it?

So far I tried all the suggestions and I still can't seem to open it, Thanks for the help

I tried notepad and windows media player. I also tried that download but I could not get it to work.

I agree with Surveyor. If you do not know the person that sent you the email and can confirm that they sent you and attachment, along with telling you what it is, then I would not open the file and delete the email.

some .dat file are video's that have not yet 100% downloaded.Kazza downloads are dat files until they are finish.
try Windows media player.

I would advise you not to open it at all. It is most likely something that will replace a vital file and cause your computer to have problems. It's potentially dangerous. I would erase it and the email it came from.
