I looked into consumer reports as well when considering a new LCD TV purchase. I was trying to figure out for myself whether or not it was worth paying a premium for the well-reviewed Sharp model. The question I wanted to answer was whether it was worth $500 more for that over the newly emerging Taiwanese manufacturers that have just started making in-roads into the US market. There is a relevant difference in quality of picture, but after looking at the price quality difference, the quality of service plan, and the more recent (but less detailed) reviews on cnet.com I could not bring myself to spend the 50% premium for the specific size I was considering. (According to some analysts, the 32" is one of the more price competitive in terms of price per square inch of the LCD TV sizes).

So if you want the 'best picture' the suggestion above won't do you wrong. But if you want good value I suggest you look elsewhere at some of the newer brands such as Vizio. But also don't make a decision without going to a store to look at the TVs. See link to the recent AP article on the topic below. BTW since then some of the companies mentioned have issued price cuts.

by consumer reports.com says that sony and toshiba make the best lcd tvs.whatever you buy, do not buy lg or zenith, they are horrible tvs, please listen to me
