Yes, over the past 25 years, girls have been achieving higher test scores and grades across the board. And we can attribute that to girls being given the opportunity and an environment to excel.
But how can we reconcile the losses that boys have experienced during this period against the girls. How can a girl's success on a test result in a boy's failure. Is there a dependency between the two results? Are we neglecting boys? Are we victimizing boys?
Does anyone believe that boys have become "dumber" over the past quarter century? If so, explain how or why.

one additional thing: We "presumably" haven't changed anything with respect to our approach to boys. If that's true, then boys scores/grades would have remained relatively consistent over the past 25 years. The 3 answers so far do not address the reality that boys once scored highly, and aren't as much anymore.

I do believe that this is true,to some extent.I think that the one of the reasons is that boys over the last 10- 15 years have stopped playing outside and using their imaginations and have replaced this with video games. Not too many girls I know love them as much as the boys do. My brother (24) my Husband(28) play them religiously. They have been since they were little. They become mesmerized. The can play for HOURS...5,6 hours at a time. That's most boys. That's allot of wasted time, allot of wasted brain cells. They don't have to think, just push buttons for hours. It's mind numbing for me just to be in the same room, It's not unusual if they really get going to go on marathons that can last up to 8 hours or more....they all do it. This is why our boys are getting dumber...no doubt about it,

The reason boys ( and i would know because i am one, although i exceed at school) don't do as good as the girls is because to most boys, school is the last place on earth they would go if they had the choice. We have a tendency at times to not pay attention to the teacher and instead look at someone else, out the window, daydream, or pass notes to communicate with other students.( Mainly other boys, girls just chat in the hallway between classes and you cant shut them up at lunch!) I do pay attention, while at times, maintaining a decently long chat with the few friends i have, ( I am going into 8th grade, in ea (exceptionally able, meaning i, along with some other students, learn at a faster rate than others,) and i also have a 9th grade algebra class complete with mid terms and finals, so you could call me smart, but you will call me devoted when you read that i have not missed a day of school since i joined ea 3 years ago. I am not lieing.) And the main reason why i say that girls do better in schools is because they are toooooooooooooo neat. Open a boys locker, and you will probably find someones lost dog. Open a girls locker, you will be lucky to find anything at all. However, none of this pertains to me, as on my last report card i received straight A's. Hope you are happy.

Females are learning how to take tests better. If you would research more into upper level acadamia you will see a world still strongly dominated by men, men who grew up in the period of the last 25 years.

So many things are geared toward girls (and minorities), you never hear anything geared toward boys; probably because people are afraid of being labeled sexist or discriminatory.
I think there's so much emphasis placed on girls doing well in school, that by default there just isn't as much placed on boys doing well. We're neglecting our boys!

Well research just shows that girls develop intellectually faster than boys. Then there are just some guys that bloom at the same rate as girls. Dont worry though.

I disagree that girls are doing better in school than boys. If the statistics say so, it is just a coincidence. In my opinion, intelligent students who study hard get better test scores than the rest, regardless their gender.
