I have this really irritating problem that my computer is shutting down when i download something from sites...does anybody know how to stop this from happening??

It sounds like you have your computer set to go into Suspend Mode when it hasn't been used in a while.

If you have Windows XP go to the start menu, then go to control panel, then power settings, then change system hybernation to never and system standbye to never and it should clear things up,

If it's not that then it could be a bad power supply or the outlet you are plugged into is not giving the computer enough power and the computer shuts down to protect itself.

Maybe your computer requires to shut down after the download so it can work. My computer does the same thing but it gives me a warning that is going to need to shut down after the download. Read read read your messages.

Maybe you need to free up some space on your harddrive by deleting old files to make room for the new downloaded ones.

You might be overheating or your power supply might be going bad. Download SpeedFan to check your temps and voltages.

if you run low on system resorces your computer could shut down
shut down un-needed programs that are running in background

try scanning your computer with updated antivirus/spywares/malwares/etc. ... it is very possible that your system is affected ...
