If Aramaic tickles your fancy...then you and I need to chat, cause I absolutely love it. For starters, check out these three sites:

http://www.peshitta.org/
http://www.assyrianlanguage.com/
There's an entire underground world of Aramaic fans out there. I only wish more folks were interested in it. After all, Abraham was Aramaean, so was Laban, Rebekah, Rachel, Leah, and a whole bunch of other Biblical characters. Hope you find what you're looking for.
Shlam l'akh va Yeshua Maran.

If you mean Biblical text, the original Aramaic language used in first century Palestine, by Christ was written down by the apostles in Koine Greek (the main written language). There is no Aramaic source for the gospels. If however you are eager just to find a secular document, I am sure if you e-mailed the language department of a good university or seminary they would be able to direct you.

Do a search of Greek libraries (Ancient Aramaic) Be prepared to speak Greek if you use the telephone. Your books are available, but not popular and will cost quite a bit
You might also try an EBay search, many by linguistic people can be found world wide for help.
Also try this website, look for cross translations and click on them.

I understand that some Assyrian Christians, an ancient Orthodox sect, also speak Aramaic, but they would be a bit hard to contact at present, as they are in Iraq.

Hey I'm Assyrian and I speak "new" Aramaic, or Assyrian. My church has Bibles in Aramaic and Assyrian, here in Chicago. But I do not know how you could receive them, there are resourceful sites online where you could purchse an aramaic Bible (Peshita). Jesus did speak "old" Assyrian, or Aramaic.

Good luck in your religious historian studies. Mine was in Religious Studies...be sure to get down pat your logic and rhetoric as you will get into many, many debates; irregardless that you'll be an historian.
