Depends on what kind of volumizers you use. Some volumizers have ingredients that may cause some damage. Gels normally don't have anything in them that can damage the hair. The products themselves do have a tendency to leave deposits and occasionally you need to remove those deposits. You can do that simply by making a paste of baking soda and water. Apply to wet hair and work it in and rub it around in the hair. leave on for about 10 min's and it should help loosen up and remove the deposits. I would however have your stylist use a deep cleansing shampoo on you when needed.

They may not "damage" your hair, but they may dull the color of your hair due to the buildup. The build up may also make it harder to style your hair as they can weigh your hair down after a long use. If you don't color you hair-try using a clarifying shampoo once a week to remove all the buildup.
