I'm probably going to get murdered for this, but I just want to know what the deal is...where the idea came about, what the "history" of it is, etc. Why would someone believe in that instead of something else? Seriously curious. I'm not going to convert to "FSMism" b/c I'm totally happy as a Christian, I just want to know what the big deal is. Thanks!

The Flying Spaghetti Monster came about in some Southern state somewhere when a group decided to make up their own religion in protest to all the Christian-RR campaigns down here to do stuff like display the Ten Commandments in court houses and bring prayer back into public schools. It started out as a joke but it actually took off.

I wanted to know about it to and so I looked it up and what I got was:

the FSM is a spaghetti monster that created everything we see. He created it not too long ago, but he doesnt want humans knowing that he created it so he created things (like the fossil record, carbon dating, etc..) to fool humans.

He created other reigions (like your Christianity) to fool people also.

the first things he created on the earth was a mountain, some trees, and a midgit.

Yes, a midgit.

And for some reason in thier religion Pirates are awesome.

And you are only saved if you are touched by his Noodley Appendage.

and if you were touched by his Noodley Appendage when you die you get Pasta.

And everybody LOVES Pasta.

that is why it is called Pastafarianism.

EDIT: I guess in Pastafarianism Midget is spelled Midgit, so I changed it. Sorry for my misunderstanding.

It's what someone much wiser than myself once referred to as "demonstrating absurity by being absurd". The point is, if people (like the Kansas Board of Education, whose dunderheaded-ness instigated the FSM phenomenon) want to force science teachers to teach non-scientific theories alongside the ones backed by empirical evidence, then logically they have no recourse but to open the floodgates and give EVERY "creation theory" of every religion equal time, no matter how ridiculous or unfounded the claims may be.

The number of people here spreading the word of Pastafarianism simply warms by heart!

I would offer one minor correction:
In Pastafarianism, it's spelled midgit [sic].

;)

It is not a serious belief, just a way to mock religion and all those who believe in God.
