I've got a problem. I don't know if I have arachnophobia or not. I used to not mind spiders, whenever i was a little girl I used to love when they came into my room, i would be like cool i'm going to keep you as a pet, until one nite whenever i was in bed watching tv a HUGE spider the size of my teddy bear's head came scurrying at breakneck speed over my radiator onto my bed and over my chest. I couldn't move, I was too scared finally when the spider crawled off me and onto my pillow I slowly walked upstairs to get my parents. Ever since that happened every nite before i go to bed i check under the bed, under the wardrobe and behind it, behind all the radiators and behind the computer table. Whenever I see a spider I can't move. All I can do is sit there and watch it and I start to shakeand my hands and forehead go clammy and most times my face will turn white and blotchy. To make matters worse i think my room is infested with baby spiders. I don't want to be a drama queen, but help?

Yes it was the size of my teddy bear's head, but it was not a tiny but very small teddy bear. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE ANSWERS AND HELP.

I found this on the web, hope it helps!

Arachnophobia: An abnormal and persistent fear of spiders. Sufferers from arachnophobia experience undue anxiety even though they realize the risk of encountering a spider and being harmed by it is small or nonexistent. They may avoid going barefoot and may be especially alert when taking showers or getting into and out of bed. This phobia was exploited in a 1990 movie called Arachnophobia.

"Arachnophobia" is derived from the Greek "arachne" (spider) and "phobos" (fear). The Greek word was derived from the name "Arachne," a maiden in Greek mythology whom the goddess Athena turned into a spider after the girl, a skilled weaver, challenged Athena to a weaving contest.

"Arachno-" is also part of the term "arachnodactyly" which refers to long spider-like fingers and toes, a frequent finding in Marfan syndrome, a heritable disorder of connective tissue.

It does sound like a phobia. As with all anxiety issues, the severity will decrease if you expose yourself to the feared object. The best way to deal with it would be to have someone you trust bring over a large spider in a jar that they could show you. If you start to pannic, then just have them cover it so you can't see it. Do this repeatedly until you no longer panic. Eventually it would be a good idea to try to touch a spider (make sure it isn't a poisonous one).

You will be free of your fear this way.

A spider the size of your teddy bear's head? A tarantula maybe?
You must live in the Southwestern USA.
You had a right to be scared.
You may think about seeing a counselor.

Sounds like you are. I am too. Never minded spiders as a kid or teenager. Then I saw one that was huge and it scared me. And now, I get sick to my stomach when I have to kill one. If yout hink you have an infestation of baby spiders, buy some spider poison or have some one come in and spray.

I hate spiders too! Thank God I haven't had any big ones crawling on me! I would FREAK!! You could talk to your parents and let them know how you feel. Maybe they would be willing to call in an exterminator. But you have to remember that spiders are good, because they get rid of other bugs.

You seem to be terribly frightened .From the way explain things it seems that you have temporary arachnophobia .

DO NT GET UPSET

its not a disease , its just a mental fear from the way you said that you never used to bother about it .I think its temporary and will pass on quickly .Anyone subjected to such a situation can have this fear for sometime .If it lasts longer undergo a counseling after discussing with your parents .

REMEMBER THAT GOD IS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP YOU AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING IN THIS WORLD THAT COULD FRIGHTEN YOU.
