Is it fair to keep and train birds of prey - falcons, hawks etc. - for the purpose of hunting 'vermin' species such as rabbits, crows, gulls etc? Is it more or less humane than, say, shooting? trapping? because it in some way replicates nature by pitting predator against prey, something prey species have to put up with every day anyway

I think that Birds of Prey are a much more fair way of hunting, as the birds may or may not kill according to nature's rules. It is possible that a Bird of Prey may not recognise prey, whereas dogs are bred to chase an animal no matter what.

It's very fair from the point of view birds of prey and very unfair from the point of view of rabbits.

Someone disapproves of hunting in any form, others think it is a necessary form of conservation. This, like legalizing prostitution and many other questions will never get a unanamous answer. I suppose it is as fair as anything so long as you give the rabbit a head start.

hawks and kestrals wouldnt tackle a crow or gull, its the other way round. i've seen merlins get chased by starlings. i would take rabbits out with a .22 air rifle and scope 30ft lbs. but it is fair to use birds of prey on rabbits as long as its for the pot or to keep their numbers down in farmland areas.

Birds of prey will hunt anyway, unfortunatly they are on the decline so it may be useful that humans do keep up the art
of Falconary ect to keep the species alive !! The hunting of
vermin should be welcomed and what better way to do it !!

Yes i do think it is fair to keep birds of prey safe from some of the human race.or they will become extinct due to nutters that like to kill for the fun of it.

I would much rather let nature run its course (birds) than a gun, trap, or bow and arrow. Also, are we hunting for survival, or pleasure?

It's natures way, and a lot more 'sporting' than a gun or traps (which I think should be banned with a capital B!).
